If happy, it can self seed rather freely. Easiest way to control is to remove the seedheads before they mature.

I planted some a few years ago. Each year it looked worst than the last until it never came back at all.

Well, I guess this purchase was a mistake! Thanks for the replies. Now to figure out what to do with six of them.... Maybe, in the dark of the moon, I could sneak them into a garden belonging to someone I dislike, far, far away. LOL.

And now I am thoroughly confused! I do have a spot with 6+ hours of sun, and the soil is dry there. On the other hand, I really do not need another problem plant -- already have goosenecked loosestrife, Mayapple taking over, and running buttercup. Those thugs just laugh at me, and if there is even a remote chance that Elijah might prove thuggish, I think I must give up. Le sigh.

Mine were in the wrong place, too much shade. i would plant them and give them a chance.

years ago I planted oat grass and even though i removed the original plant, i still find it here and there. Avoid that one!

I put Elijah Blue in my perennial garden, it was there probably 7 years before we moved. I imagine the next owners ripped out the garden when they put in a half-court, but while I was there it always looked nice. i don’t recall it coming up elsewhere.

Elijah Blue seeds around a bit for me, but nothing too terrible. It certainly hasn't been a problem plant. Individual plants do have a limited lifespan before they become sort of woody and difficult to rejuvenate.

mine usally died the second or third year. It barely had the chance to reproduce.
