Gray is on its way out and good riddance. I wouldn’t use gray in a permanent fixture like tile.

If you do wood-look tile next to real wood, make sure to choose a waaay different color so it doesn’t look like you tried to match and failed.

I have Pergo laminate flooring in my kitchen that was discontinued. So, when I replaced my entraceway hall flooring (that leads into my kitchen), I chose Italian porcelain woodlook tile. My carpenter made a simple oak transition piece between the two floorings.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I agree that gray is not a good choice. Unless you are going very dark for a slate-like look.

IMO gray is not going out if you like all cool colors than grays are always going to work . But I do not like wood look tile and IMO already dated but honestly the best choice would be to match the wood floors or a simple 12 x24 porcelain tile no pattern at all in a color that works with the kitchen and the rest of the flooring .. If you post pictures of what you have already you will get better help.

Real slate or Daltile’s porcelain look alike Delegate would be your best bet to transition. Charcoal. Most gray will clash.

Definitely, no fake wood next to real wood. Gray in the proper setting is fine, it is not going away but it needs to be chosen carefully to compliment the surroundings. And still no wood look next to real wood. Personally I do not like gray floors but that is me.

If you must have gray, look for a slate color. Love what eld6161 posted.

I have gray slate next to wood. It's actual slate (I like fake stone only slightly more than fake wood) and it's been performing well. You do have to vet your slates carefully. Some are more stain resistant and some may flake.

I put a gray slate look porcelain tile in my master bath last year (bedroom has wood floors) and I love it. I wouldn't install gray LVP or stain wood floors gray right now because that is certainly a dying trend, but real slate or a convincing porcelain slate look has a lot more longevity. I would certainly choose it over putting a wood-look tile next to a real wood floor. Friends of ours did that last year when they remodeled their kitchen and I don't care for it.

Thank you all. I do like that grey tile color pictured above by @eld6161. I feel like too dark will make my kitchen look smaller. @kculbers What brand/spec is that? It looks great. I don't have a great picture to show because it's going to all be redone. My hardwood floors are red oak right now. Cabinets will be white.

Don't put faux wood next to real wood. Get a stone looking tile instead, it will look way better. Vinyl, porcelain, anything, as long as it doesn't try to mimic wood. It will look so much better and you won't have to worry about matching.

As far as color goes, slate grey is fine. Grey wood is trendy, but grey tile is timeless.
