No direct ownership with the True (yet!) but from my research, I think they're phenomenal units and the build quality and fit and finish are great.

Our True beverage refrigerator and refrigerator drawers are LOUD!

@cheri127 Could you elaborate? Compared to what? Under what conditions?

Also, I'm not sure if the undercounter and full-sized units have similar sound qualities.

@TXGuy Compared to everything else in the room. We have a 30" Thermador fridge and 18" Thermador freezer and never hear them. It's an open concept beach house and the two undercounter fridges are loud enough that it's a relief when they cycle off. They also don't have door open alarms which is sometimes a problem with the drawers. I have no idea how the columns are.

@cheri127 Thanks for the additional info. It is very surprising that they don't have a door open alarm. It looks like the new drawer and undercounter refrigerator units do, but it sounds after 7 minutes, which seems like a long time to me.

I've seen the excessive noise reports before. The longevity may be there in a commercial environment where noise isn't a priority. Residential is different. This video says 42-48db when running. Start-up may be a different sound level. This video isn't unbiased.

@dan1888 The video is about the columns, though, which use an entirely different platform than the undercounter units. And the thread is (primarily) about a commercial unit.

You find me any mention of sound levels on their site, pdf files or vidoes. This speaks to the priority they give to that important specification. Is it great to have a reliable unit if you have to spend years listening to it? Not for me.

@dan1888 I don't think I'd draw that conclusion. I also don't see a mention that the unit won't spontaneously combust; does that speak to the priority they put on that important characteristic? There is no standard for measuring appliance noise levels, and many manufacturers decline to provide sound level information. SubZero, for example, is among them.

And they don't mention whether it'll get up and walk, either. The way to solve this is to unplug the unit after taking off showroom and plug it back in. If it's not possible, forget it. SZ may also be too noisy for an open concept layout.

Many thanks for the feedback- noise was something I had not considered. We are going to figure out if the sun zero side by side is the better option and just plan to use our old fridge as a placeholder while we wait the 15 months for the sun zero.
