exterior entryway

Hi. Anyone willing to share ideas on what I can do to make my front entryway/porch larger, more inviting? I want to paint the house as well. Any color ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Pressure wash and clean the entire exterior. Add a bit more landscaping, (something flowery, for color). When you paint, paint the top gable the same color as the house, so it blends in, instead of standing out. Once you have all of the house painted, then paint the door a pretty color, and since it appears dark in there, maybe a bright, but, light color. Cute house.

Any chance you can create an island out in the yard and move the tall palm trees there? I think they block the windows now and it is taking away from the look of the house.

You have a perfect opportunity to color block. Paint the board and batten a dark color - maybe a gray from the roof and the stucco portion of the house a very light almost white color. White trim and no shutters. Paint the door a bright color in a semi-gloss finish, a happy yellow or a light green or blue.

If you keep the window box, paint it white and fill it with colorful plants.

I like palms, but I don't think the ones you have are doing anything for your house. Is this in CA?

The house doesnt need a larger entry, you just need to be able to see it. The door should be a bright or light color so it pops. I would get rid of the landscape there now, loose the shutters and planter box. I would look at a somewhat traditional paint with a little spin.

Have you thought about the rooms in the house? Do you love the layout/floorplan of the home?

You might close off the current front door/entry and create a new front entry somehwere else.

Any of the exsting windows already have a header, that could allow for a door installation.

I too would relocate the palms to an Island in the lawn and develope a larger front patio at ground level.

Well, I think your house is just adorable. I was going to suggest a large surface mount light above the door and a bright color door, lol. I think your house could pull off decorative entry trimming of some sort. Or maybe a wider walk with landscaping on both sides curving up to the door. I love your yellow, but any pastel would be adorable, I think.

Maybe google recessed entry doors, and search that topic on Houzz - it gets discussed a lot.

    well that escalated quickly...lol

I guess it depends on your budget & goals.

for a small change you could paint the door a fun turquoise.

paint the whole house white with the turquoise door.

The color blocking above looks neat but looks like you are in a warm climate...I might stick with lighter colors.

Add a front porch if you want to really boost the curb appeal.

I agree with the above folks the palms need their own home in the yard not near the house.

    Cute house!

I’ll chime in with the relocating all the palms away from the house group. I think that will have a huge impact on what the house looks like because my first impression at viewing the picture was - that’s a lot of palms - before even noticing the house. I think widening the sidewalk to at least the width of planting bed on the right side of house would also visually enlarge your entry.

Hi everyone, I’m new to using Houzz and I don’t know how to respond to everyone individually. But thank you so much, all of you, for replying and sharing such great suggestions. Lots of decisions to make but I really appreciate your input. You’ve given me such good ideas. And one thing is for sure, those palm trees are getting moved from in front of the house since everyone agreed on that! :) again, thanks everyone.

Oh also, what all did you guys use to change the house color and add landscape? I’d like to try and play around with some other colors too. That visual tool would be great since I don’t feel I have too good an imagination for these things.

Ok, I’ll try looking there. Thanks
