Help with dining room chairs

We recently renovated the ground floor of our 1850's home. We need to furnish our dining room, shown here with the view through to the kitchen:

We've made some progress on a table and light fixture. Option #1 (simple table, more whimsy with the light):

Option #2 (leans fairly traditional):

and something like

But we're not sure about chairs with either option! We'd like them to be comfortable but durable---definitely want backs on the chairs, don't want fabric that can't stand up to kids, beets, and ketchup, and don't want molded plastic. Any suggestions on chairs or in general? Thanks!

# 1 for sure as for chairs the kitchen is really traditional the new lighting much more MCM maybe we need a bit more info as to the rest of the house but I think now you need a bit of color and I would do a simple all leather chair if possible maybe blue then add a bit of blue in the kitchen

Your kitchen is beautiful, love the hood and backsplash. I like option 1 best with chairs similar to your stool in the kitchen.

Rest of the house is pretty traditional---we kept/copied the old tall baseboards, the doors, the floors, etc. Mostly historic paint colors. Blue, green, and orange make up the color scheme on rest of floor.

Agree that the lighting in option #1 leans MCM but we were trying to mix things up a bit while still staying true to the overall feel---not sure if it works!

I like table #1 & light #2. light #2 seems a much nicer blend & complement to your pretty kitchen. Ithink table #1 gives you many more options on chair style. I’d think about not matching all the chairs for table. I mean, maybe solid wood or even leather armchairs for ends & upholstered seat chairs for sides..For example, my dining chairs are a combo of two oak curved back arm chairs that are originanal to table & 4 vintage oak pressed back chairs with upholstered seat. Kind of like mixing up china in the place settings

Lucky you to own an historic home. 1850's were Victorian influenced, but that doesn't mean the stiff, formal look was the only choice. The one I can see in your house is Victorian French Restoration. Not sure if you would consider this idea, but there are some gorgeous authentic pieces you could find on-line from reputable dealers. Something like this table:

I like @Patricia Colwell Consulting recommendation for the chair. I believe these are from Crate and Barrel. I purchased these about 10 years ago and they are very sturdy, super comfortable and come in many colors.

I think something like these chairs from Birch Lane would be perfect. Add some chair pads that can be washed for color and comfort.

Thanks, everyone! We are now confident about table #1, probably with something like the Parsons chair that @Patricia Colwell Consulting suggested for side chairs and something else for the end chairs. (Mixing it up as @KW PNW Z8 suggested---the kids, with their ketchup and beets, have to sit somewhere other than upholstery, even if it's easy clean or washable!) Still not sure if lighting #1 is too modern for the house, but we'll keep pondering...
