back kitchen lighting

Our kitchen will have a back kitchen area (see rendering) that will house our ovens, freezer storage space. full layout is attached. It’s between the kitchen and the living room. It will be opposite our pantry. Design wise I’d like to put three semi flush ceiling mount lights in the space but functionally it seems recessed lighting ( which is already there) is best. The only natural light will be from the sm pantry window.
Thanks for suggestions.

IMO akitchen needs to be functional and for me I use my oven as much as my range for cooking so to put ovens outside the main kitchen makes no sense Maybe just post a to scale floor plan of the whole area and then we can get a feel for the space. I never like walk in pantries outside the main work area either . Who designed this kitchen ? An actual independant KD is what you need not some cabinet salesperson and all those little drawers by the oven are totally useless . A prep sink directly across from a range is never good and the walkway there needs to be 48" for sure . As for the lighting just make sure you have enough pot lights and that all the lighting is LED 4000K IMO you can never have enough lighting in a kitchen just control how much needs to be on at one time .

Hello Patricia, thanks for your thoughts, yes we used an independent kitchen designer and I am very happy with the design. The drawers you referenced are not that small- (2) 27" and a 15." The full layout is in the original post. The ovens are around the corner from the main kitchen and extremely accessible. I do not use my ovens nearly as much as my range.

I somewhat agree with the first post. I do like the design but only if you change the cooktop into a range. Then your second oven, and a microwave if you like, can go in the back room. Having the primary oven in a different room breaks too many design rules and devalues your home. If the cooktop switches to a range everything works, and I like the design for its creativity. Otherwise, the disfunction trumps the design. For lighting - recessed and undercabinet lighting is the best choice here.

I would stick with recessed lighting and good undercabinet lighting in that particular area.

I can see the point being made about the ovens being separate from the cooktop to that degree. However the likelihood that I would use the oven right under the cooktop as the primary oven is low, I would use the one(s) away from the cooktop preferentially because I don't like standing over a hot oven when I am doing something else.

Just regarding lighting, your plan does not show what the other doorway next to Pantry is from into this space. Also, whether the Living has another entrance to the Kitchen (or what's the room behind this cabinet wall). But, I would agree that semi-flush decorative ceiling lights would work here as a thoroughfare from the Living. Depending on the fixture chosen, you could get away with (2) in 11'-6" in combination with undercabinet lighting, since it doesn't appear you will be doing any hard prep on this counter. Besides, it looks like they have placed recessed lights (I see 2 in the pic?) to light the corridor rather than the proper counter lighting placement.

If you choose semi-flush instead of the recessed, make sure to coordinate with the island pendant style.

Also, surprised to see remodel cans installed prior to drywall.

In the Pantry if you have high shelves in the Pantry the (2) recessed there may not provide the upper spread you are looking for that a semi-flush would provide. And not sure if there will be some sort of vault added to the ceiling like the drawings show something.
