Porterhouse is gorgeous! Also Nile Princess and Kingdom Without End made me look again. I think most of my red daylilies are looking especially bright and appealing, Thin Man, Reminds Me of Fireworks, Spiderman were all covered in blooms this morning and almost put my eyes out, LOL. Of course, Born to Run bloomed, not splotchy at least, but a light pink. Your 2nd group came thru, all looking great. Love those seedlings.

Nancy - Porterhouse does have a gorgeous flower. I'm happy with how this plant has multiplied and performed since I got it in Kingsport. I look forward to seeing your photos of your spidery reds.

The All American Chief blooms also all look flawless! We are being warned now that after a brief respite, nineties till the end of June. Not fair! We should not have summer TN weather when we have to endure all that cold in winter.

To be fair, Mantis, we should not have to endure it either!! This is not typical for us even in the south for this early. Or for so long! This is way more like mid July and August weather for us when our flowers are done and our ACs are serviced!! And on top of that it is dangerous heat with heat index temps triple digit and humidity out the roof! Of course so much of the country is dealing with this right now.

I agree with Mantis about All American Chief-I can see why it was a traffic stopper. I remember it looking good for you last year too. So many of these are so lovely, you would never know what heat you endured to get them! I like all but Tart With a Heart, Porterhouse, Nile Princess, Endless Beauty and those seedlings are really standouts.

I hate about your hybridizing. How frustrating! But I am also seeing the yellowing of foliage, buds are drying and falling off and blooms are quickly fading in the heat. Dearest Valentine bloomed today and I won't post it as you would not recognize it. The color is very pale pink and faded.. I am not sure how this will continue to impact the mid to lates. Not very well I am sure.

What a great day for All American Chief! I understand you being a bit disappointed with color on your Razor Sharp seedling but I really love THIS color! What a bummer this heat is messing with your hybridizing…..I’m wondering what i pact it will have on my early bloomers.

Oh my that clump of All American Chief is impressive. All the photos are perfect. I'm sure you will get seeds as the heat won't last forever and if you get rebloom perhaps you have an opportunity to do some crosses. Frustrating yes, but the weather like most things can change. Smile, you have a wonderful garden of blooms and those seedlings are quite stunning.

We just had a severe thunderstorm blow through this evening but the humidity remains. Our humiidity is suppose to break tomorrow with another round of storms here and then much cooler temps for the weekend. BUT, the heat and humidity will return once again. .

Mantis - This much heat is not fair for anybody. And apparently there's no end in sight.

Julia - My rebloom normally comes in late July and early August when temps are always in the 90s. Anything over 90 and pods won't likely set. I'm pretty sure this will be a year with minimal seeds.

Debra, I feel your pain with hybridizing. We haven't had many daylilies open yet, but I have made only about 6 pollinations. None will probably set with our temperatures as they are. Bob and I joked about taking the year off from making seeds, and maybe that is what will happen. Several years ago, all we had was 350 seedlings to plant after a year with no rain and high temps. We are getting dry here now. This weekend is supposed to be nice and then back into the high 90s and low 100's.

Your flowers are looking lovely even in the heat. I really like Tart with a Heart. I added that one this spring--taking a chance it won't be tender. I also like Rosie with a Ring and Nile Princess. The Lonesome Jaguar group is really nice. We planted that one this spring.

Your seedlings are wonderful. I can't decide which one I like best--probably the darker one.

Nan - I will be lucky if I come out with 20 seeds in this weather. At this point, I'm pretty much out of room to plant new seedlings, so maybe this isn't such a bad thing. I was just really itching to cross some of my new daylilies with my seedlings. A lot of the seeds I planted this Spring are not doing well. About a fourth of the ones in cups died, and I don't know why. The rest are not growing well. I didn't have any fungus gnats this year, and I didn't see signs of damp off. All I can think is that my potting medium was bad.

I hope Tart With A Heart and Lonesome Jaguar will do well for you!

I like Tart with a Heart the best along with Nile Princess. Is the white as white as the picture or is they more yellow. All Am. Chief is indeed bright! I also like Kingdom without End and Razor Sharp X Spacecoast Night Vision #1.

Brad - Tart With A Heart was photographed in the shade, so the petal color looks whiter than it is. It's actually a very light cream or an off white. Last year Nile Princess showed some pink tones in the petal color. It's supposed to be a cream white.

All are so pretty Debra. I like Endless Beauty in particular........ How anything can bloom and look decent as the day progresses in this heat is a credit to miracles. Our heat index was in the triple digits (117 the other day) and they say we have to look to July for any possible cool down. Can you believe that? July is our only hope for a cool down???..........Maryl

Maryl - A heat index of 117 sounds truly awful. The highest ours has been was 109. We did get a surprise cool down today after a thunderstorm, and Saturday and Sunday are supposed be highs in the 80s. Then it's back to high nineties and hundreds for the next two weeks. I'm glad you liked Endless Beauty. No one has ever commented on in the three years I've posted it's pictures.
