@decoenthusiaste would you leave the area in front of the stairs empty? I just didn’t think my living room had much in it so I decided to use a pedestal. The basket light is right smack in the middle of the room so I can’t move my seating since there is a walk way into the kitchen.

If it changes your mind at all about them the arrangements are actually dried florals ( pampas grass and eucalyptus), not artificial

How about an entryway rug? I love your wall color. Do you have any idea what paint color it is? I’m looking to paint my living room the same color (I know colors look totally different house to house), and am struggling to find something that’s warm like this but does not turn pink or peach. I think your room is looking really beautiful. I would add one real plant in addition to the dried. If there’s enough light for a shade plant, you could put one in the entryway instead of the vase…maybe not enough light though.

The color is incredible white in Matte, I got the cheapest valspar paint at lowes ( white can ). It sorta has a very very soft grey color to it. It isn’t peach at all. Do you have an specific suggestions for entry rugs? I don’t think I’d be able to do a long one because the door and stairs over lap. What do you think about the pedestal?

I would definitely keep your current console. It adds interest and texture to the space. You said you can't center your furniture under the chandelier - but could you at least move it towards the other side of the rug so that the side by the fireplace can "breathe"? Another idea - have one chair facing the sofa, and one angled toward the fireplace, with a round table in between the two chairs.

I would put a long, narrow sofa table behind the sofa, and place a couple of lamps on top to give some light (I understand that means your coffee table won't be centered to the fireplace, but that should be ok). And, I'd swap your huge coffee table for a round one. Love your gold bowl, and would reconsider painting it. I'm also not in love with the pedestal, and would instead get a runner (that goes from the curtains to almost the pedestal wall).

You have a great start!!! One question - are you adverse to color? I think your space would really shine with a bit of color - maybe in pillows? artwork? pottery? books?

@sammie j by moving my furniture toward the other side of the rug do you mean have the sofa facing the fireplace? If that is what you mean my sofa is very deep and would protrude out into the walk way too much. I like the runner idea, it had not dawned on me to place it in that orientation. If I removed the pedestal and put a runner down, would you put any painting in front of the stairs at all? I like things dull and dry lol I just like my creams, black, and grays. I don’t mind color from plants but that’s it. I wanted to swap my console table out because I didn’t think the style matched, I thought it looked too mcm rather then transitional.

So far it looks great. I'm very into neutral colors as well.

Since you do like neutrals, I'm sharing this Dilemma to inspire you. Have you considered simply removing the ceiling fixture and going for floor and table lamps? Overhead lighting is, IMO, used to see how to get into a room in the dark. Then you dim or turn it off and use task (lamps) and accent lighting to warm and cozy up the space. I think you are being limited by the fixture and by the small rug. Maybe the basket light would work over a dining table or in a sunroom or covered deck.

Its a great bunch of choices, really nice but I think you should have the sofa face the fireplaces and the chairs flank it. It is really noticeable to me that the light fixture is not "in the room" right now and it is dominating the space. if it was more over the table I think it would fall in line. because the light fixture is so ample, its needs to be anchored.

OR

you pull the sofa more toward the FP and center the furniture more to the room, actually in that case I would flip the sofa and chairs. In that case I would consider finding a new home for the light fixture. (possibly in your stairwell?) Or buy a new cord and socket so you can swag it to center ( i would go white).

The furniture is large and the FP looks small so not having everything squared around it might help a lot.

@RL Relocation LLC I’m a bit lazy to redo the electrical but if I wasn’t I would totally move it because I agree it should better centered with the seating. I don’t have the sofa facing the fireplace because it would protrude out into the walk way to much. If I flip the chairs and the sofa, I’m not a huge fan because the sofa back would be to a window and the front door. My living room I feel is awkwardly narrow. What do you think about the console table swap and the pedestal? I really like your wall basket idea, I do want to bring an olive tree in. :) thanks for your help

I feel like you have it stuffed into the corner, and maybe you just feel like the sofa back to the door is a bad idea, this looks more like a sitting room than a living room (sans tv), I think you are not letting the space breath. The pedestal you have in the entry is just fine. If it was me I wouldn't have anything there except maybe art on the wall as the door swings in.

If nothing else, move the sofa off of that wall and away from the FP wall at least 12 inches and pull the whole arrangement toward the windows, get baby out of the corner. put a sofa table behind sofa for lamps.

BUT I would really love to see you put the bulky sofa on the larger side of the room.

question, is that a real fireplace?

I’m ok with this space being considered a sitting room, I would like it if the area felt staged ( like when you go to sell a house, lol maybe that’s an odd taste but that’s what I like). I posted a picture so you better get a feel for this walk way I keep mentioning. I can’t pull it any further away from the fireplace wall. I will post a picture in a moment of the seating swapped as you suggested :)

This area is 7.5ft ( width of the wall behind sofa) x 18ft ( wall behind sofa to window ).

I seen now that is just a mantel and a black square painted on the wall. It looks staged itself lol.
