Maple cabinets can not be made into pale mouse flesh pink whitewashed oak. They ARE a great surface to be painted.

But you don’t need to change those cabinets. The cabinets are the best part about the room. They are great as the existing warm wood they are. It’s the dark counter, no under cabinet lighting, and the pink backsplash that are the issues. You just need new counters, lighting, and backsplash. And maybe new floors.

for quite a bit less money [ if its an issue] you could just change the backsplash to a pale sage green glass tile/ [or ceramic] ... works w floor probably and will unite the counter w cabinets in a lighter more transitional look.
