Then paint all oak trim incl doors a white. Paint kitchen a dove gray. Add roman shade to window in dark gray.

Instead of pot rack. Add pendants over island in a Color like yellow.

You have a nice large kitchen. Put some area rugs on the floor to break it up.

If you don't want to paint your cabinets you could consider new frosted glass doors for your uppers.

Ditto adding some floor runners

That is a ton of oak to either stain or paint- You could try a different color on the walls, some rugs and different hardware on cabinets and see if it defuses it first.

I'd paint the cabinets white. Replace hardware with oil rubbed bronze or black to tie in your countertops. Leave the baseboards, window trim and doors wood. Otherwise, if you have wood doors and trim throughout your house and you paint the trim and doors, you may need to continue that throughout the house.

What about just painting the island? I could never do it myself, but I've seen some people paint a border around the edge of the room on their wood floors. It looks nice if that's something you would like. If not that, what about some runner rugs? You need to introduce another bold color in the room. You have black in the counters and appliances. Try a dark red or cobalt blue. Hang a valance over your window and some colorful artwork around the room. Are you attached to your bar stools? Some boldly painted stools may help. If you introduce more color, maybe the oak won't stand out so much.

A tiled backsplash is also a place to add some color.

Painting the island could be a good solution and also if there is a place where it makes sense to paint just a couple of cabinets black like in this photo. Maybe where your wall ovens are. (I am not a pro and looking at your photo I am not sure which cabinets would look right painted black so maybe someone can chime in on that).

You might think about new drawer pulls, throw rugs that included your green color and hints of black to match your counter tops, and possibly just painting your island . I agree with Travis to also replace the pot rack with some lights with color in them too.

I like the idea of painting the island that may be enough to break it up for you!

Rust-Oleum has a product/kit called "Cabinet Transformations" which comes in a variety of colors as well as one for counter tops "Counter Transformations." Once I am able to, I will be using that product to renew my kitchen cabinets.

HI -- The reason your kitchen looks too woodsy is that there is no color break between the floors and the cabinets . So painting or re -staining the cabinets will help . Do you want to go white or light or go darker ? Here is a color that is a middle dark color that will make the black appliances blend in more . Look at the color " Clove Dust " 2267 by Pratt & Lambert paints . Have the doors sent out to be sprayed then work on the rest yourself or get someone to do the whole thing . Then have some nice new hardware , maybe a brushed or shiny chrome . This color looks very up town elegant with dark counters . You have a large kitchen so I don't think you need to hang the pots on that pot rack -- replace with some nice fancy glass drop lights . Now maybe paint the walls a nice warm white or a cream or your current color might work also. Now for the backsplash , I think you should take off the little 4 inch piece and find some nice glass or glossy tiles , because this kitchen needs a little sparkle. Also paint the pantry door black to balance with the appliances .

I like the suggestion for the frosted upper cabinets, it mimics your existing door. This might be tricky if you're trying to do it yourself. You can also bring color to your kitchen with a mosaic back splash with colors that would tie in the paint color. You can also try just staining your lower cabinets for dual colors.

Houzz...so interesting. If you have wood cabinets they must be painted white. If your kitchen is all white, you must choose dark wood. This is getting a little confusing.

I would start with painting all of the trim in the room white. Around windows, doors, baseboards, etc. Then see if the wood cabinets are too much. I also like the idea of painting your island.

i like what Travis Interiors suggested. Sand lightly and stain the cabinets a warmer mid-tone darker color. You could also look at painting the island cabinets in a light color to complement the wall color.

Start by changing pulls...adding color to floor with rugs..Shaw has awesome rugs that would look great.your cabnits look in great shape. Good luck..

Paint some of the cabinets. leave some stained. Get some good looking rugs. Hang some pretty pendants where the pot rack is... move it somewhere else if you can.

Add some flair to your window...

I love your kitchen. Painting the cabinets would take away from the beauty of the craftsmanship of the kitchen itself. I would recommend replacing the doors with a frosted glass, it maintain the integrity of the wood.

Here is a kitchen I did with a $75 stain kit from Lowes. NO sanding required. It has a liquid "stripper" and it's so easy to use! We did the whole kitchen in 2 days...that also included the required drying periods between coats! The first coat looks awful, but the second coat will totally amaze you! Three coats is what I prefer to get a really nice even finish. There is a final optional coat...do it! You'll love it. Oh YES you can do it all by yourself!!!!! I promise!

Notice that her kitchen has oak doors and same color floor...the transformation is remarkable. This product is made by rustoleum. They have 2 versions...one is a restorer for worn out cabinets that need a new coat of the same color,,,the other is a transformation kit...that's what you need. There are many color choices to choose from. Take the kit to the paint counter, pick the color, they mix it..and you are ready to go! Water cleanup required for the brushes! This client hated the floors and the counters. I told her to wait until we were done and I think you'll change your mind. She didn't believe me...but in the end..she was blown away and no longer minded the floor or the counters. Try you Island first! Go for it!

Have you consider doing a reface kit for the kitchen? Not tearing into cabinets or anything like that but putting new doors and drawer fronts on to give your kitchen an entirely new species and look? In these pictures they started out with too much oak as well, but seem very pleased with their new hickory look!

I have the same look in my kitchen. I painted my walls Clove Dust from P&L which really updated the look. Seems a shame to paint beautiful Oak Cabinets.
Maybe a Roman Blind over the kitchen window and pendent lights over the Island and a nice wool runner on the wood flooring to break it up.

Try adding some decor to top of cabinets. Your kitchen is beautiful !!

I would add a few things on top of the cabinets, add a window treatment above the sink to add color and add some runners. I think that would break everything up. IF you paint, I would only do the island. It looks like the oak runs through your whole house and unless you are up for the task of redoing your whole place then I wouldn't start doing trim and doors in white.

I also like the idea of painting just the island. If you like the wall paint color then I would pick out some nice fabric and have a roman shade made then find a nice runner to tie the colors together. I am not personally a fan of the stools, maybe new stools, pendant lighting and cabinet pulls would make it look like a new room :)

I would not touch the cabinets but go for the easiest fix and that would be the floor. Take out the hardwood and go with a lighter ,maybe greyish, floor. Like a high end laminate. Paint the walls a lighter matching color as the floors . Then add some color with some pendant lights over the island and use that color here and there to throw the eye around.

Redo the island, paint the doors and trim. Look for the easy fixes where too much oak is concerned. Update accessories.
