Monday's Blooms

It was another chilly night last night--the last for a while, I'm sure. Bob had the day off so we took some time looking at the flowers this morning.

I don't often get clump shots, but I had to take a shot of Unstoppable. It is a monster of a plant.

Here is a shot of Ruckus, A Man Called Trout and Gryphon Carl Linnaeus. Carl Linnaeus is the tall one with Ruckus in the foreground and Trout on the left.

Femme de Joie has been here for many years. We love the delicate colors.

This is Topguns My Friend Ellen.

Patricia Ann's Calliopsis is not a great grower, but it has lovely flowers.

Bear Paw was new last year. It gets morning shade from a peach tree.

Off to See the Wizard was a bonus plant. It's not a very large flower so we have been using it in our small dip program.

Just a couple of seedlings today. Here is the first of the toothy oranges. It is Princess of Alexandria X (Sea of Cinders X Happy Holidays to You).

We like this brownish one with a very dark eye. It is Heavenly Bengal Tiger X Ruby Storm.

Unstoppable looks amazing today, what a show off! I like Topguns MFE today…it is my favorite registered, like those doubles. I really like that brownish seedling, would be great to see it in person.

Unstoppable was indeed unstoppable!! What an amazing clump-so glad you got that shot! PAC does indeed have lovely flowers. I like the Ruby Storm seedling-such an interesting cross-never would have thought of that one (which is why I am not a hybridizer!!!).

Wow, that is one large clump of Unstoppable. Patricia Ann's Calliopsis does have a pretty face.

My favorite photo is the second one of the three clumps. The first seedling has a great edge! I'm always drawn to Patricia Ann's Calliopsis.

I was looking around last spring for the Topgun's double My Friend Ellen and there she is in your garden. How does she do for you?.........I like your last seedling with the dark eye. Base color is a pretty shade of burnt orange/gold with no muddiness apparent in your picture. Nice line edge on petals too...............Maryl

Maryl, I wouldn't say Topguns MFE is a great grower for us. My comment might be colored by our personal liking for tall daylilies and it is not, registered at 24 inches.

Kate, we like making the offbeat crosses sometimes. Often that is where big breaks come. I am trying to get a red daylily with a black eye, sort of like Velvet Eyes but bigger and with a petal color more bright red than orange red. Bill Maryott has been trying for that for years and hasn't gotten there yet, in his opinion. I am hoping to flip the orange of H. Bengal Tiger to red. No luck with the seedling, but we'll keep trying.
