bathroom etiquette

We are getting new dark floors in the wet areas to go with a beautiful pecan hardwood floor everywhere else. I am looking at white tub and vanities with dark soapstone countertops with white bowl sinks that sit on top of the countertop. Will i need to repaint the doors and door facings white now? They are currently a putty color. Or is there a way to blend everything so i dont have to paint part of the house white. Maybe antique white vanities?

What does ettiquette have to do with this and wht wood floors in a wet area . I think I need more info and some pics Where do these doors go and from where .

Are you talking about a vessel sink, or a drop in instead of an undermount? IMO, practically speaking, the only good place to have a vessel sink is in a powder room.

As for the color of the doors, there is nothing wrong with waiting until the new floors are in and seeing how you feel about the color then. If it looks really wrong you will have to paint them.

I just chose ettiquette for lack of time to think of a better description of my decision dilemma. I will send a picture of the floor samples. The dark is going in the bathrooms. I am ordering a white tub. I am trying to decide whether to go with white vanities when the doors to the closets, etc are a putty color. I don't want to have to paint these doors and door facings white if I don't have to. there are many doors in this house and they are all putty colored. Would it be okay (hence the etiqette term-and was trying to be a little tongue in cheek) to leave them putty colored with dark floors, white vanities, dark countertops, and white bowl sinks...?

The first picture is taken from the bathroom...yes we have carpet in the bathroom! Hence the reason for new flooring...

    Thanks for your input.

I think your choices of gray flooring and the a white vanity do not go with the putty doors.

I see now you asked about off white. I think that would go better. Or a stained wood vanity

The floors are actually more black than gray with a little veining of beige and of white. The beige brings out the warmth of the pine. But overall they are quite dark. I will see about off white. Thanks

To be fair, I love both your flooring choices, just not with the trim and doors as is. I would be more inclined to get what I wanted in the hard surfaces and then pick the paint afterwards

    Thank you. Will do

The wood floors do not go with the putty doors color wise or style wise. They are fairly rustic looking. Are they going throughout the entire house? I would be inclined to find floors and bathroom pieces that better coordinate with the putty color if you don't want to paint the doors.

Well they are already ordered. We have computer generated pics to get an idea. I guess we will see how they look and paint the doors if needed. Thank you.

The pecan floors are beautiful! I bet you’re super excited!

I love your flooring choices. They look lovely together.

The Pine flooring has yellow undertones and the tile has purple undertones with yellow beige highlights (purple and yellow are complements and work beautifully together)

The putty color is much more of a greenish yellow undertone and your walls also seem to have a greenish yellow undertone.

I think I would be looking to paint the walls and trim with new, cleaner colors that work better with the purple and yellow undertones.

Something like Simply White would be the direction I would go.

It is not unusual to find that wall color or trim colors don't work well when we change the undertones in our flooring.

The computer generated pictures are super helpful - I think that the floors look great, and with the fireplace they bring in a super natural look that will flow really well.

Is the pillar in the picture of your dining room the same colour as the doors? If so, I'm not convinced you will need to paint the doors. The tile looks like it has warm veining which should also work with the doors.

I would look at vanities with antique white finishes. It's a warmer finish that will work well with what you've currently got in the house.

Thanks! And yes, the pillar is the same putty color as the doors and trim all over the house. I have always thought it had a bit of a greenish hue. I suppose we will have to look at it all again after the floors are installed. In the meantime i will look at antique white vanities or lightly stained wood ones -then send pics to see what you all think. Thanks again!

Here is the breakdown of the current colors. The beige is the trim. I don’t really know how to put these together…i think the overall combination might be neutral… ?

Every neutral has an undertone - a color that isn't all that noticeable until it is next to another color or painted on a large surface.

The neutral color families are pink beige, orange beige, yellow beige, gold beige, and green beige

Greige (Between green beige and green gray)

Green gray, blue gray, violet gray

Taupe (between violet gray and pink beige).
