Streaming services and do I need another?

We don’t have Starz. Is it worth subscribing to see the Sean Penn, Julia Roberts series, Gaslight? Has anyone seen ?

I have recently watched parts of the Godfather and a vintage TV cowboy series. The Hopalong Cassidy character is a hero.

We have Netflix and that's it. Well, we have PBS Passport thru our NPR membership but have never used it. There are probably a lot of good movies out there that I am missing but I no longer care. It already costs a lot to get the cable package full of things that we don't watch either. I'm getting old, I guess, and I no long watch much TV. So I see all these services as nickel-and diming us.

I'd like to hear folks add up their streaming services and let us know how much they cost each month, and how much value they get out of them.

I don't know if I get Starz and I haven't watched that program.

We're kinda thinking about dumping cable altogether.

Streaming services individually are (can be) pretty cheap. Cable--which we don't seem to use much--isn't.

Can't speak to that particular service/program. I limit myself to two plus Amazon Prime. If I find we're not really watching a service much I quit it. I quit Netflix after many years and added Hulu no ads. There are quite a few series I was interested in on Hulu and I'm willing to pay more not to be subjected to ads. I also have Acorn for British programs. I had a four month free trial of Apple TV and watched everything I wanted to within the four month window so I cancelled that as well. I haven't had cable in over ten years.

I have way too many options already, I was hoping someone has seen Gaslight. It does get good reviews.

We dumped cable years ago. We have an HD antenna. We have a smart tv that offers different streaming services. We also have Prime, which we rarely use, especially this time of year.

We dumped cable about 8-10 years ago. Now we have Hulu, PBS, about to drop Netflix and my current favorite Discovery+. About $30. A month total.

We pay $9.99 a mo for Netflix. We like "Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee" & "My Next Guest Needs No Introduction."

I can't justify any more subscriptions here either. We have Netflix, Hulu and PBS Passport, and we do watch a lot of PBS - especially 'Antiques Roadshow', 'American Experience' and the series 'Nature', but I haven't watched Hulu or Netflix for months now. Hubby watches them.

Had Apple TV+ until recently - a freebie from Target Circle for 3 months, but I only watched 2 series on there.

Haven't checked Starz, but do they offer a free trial period? Lots of subscription streaming services do, and people use those to watch one or 2 things without committing to a subscription. That might be a way to help decide if you want to subscribe to watch the whole series.

No cable here for a couple of years.

    Netflix: $5 (it is a shared subscription), Starz $3, PBSPassport $5, Paramount+ I think is $4,

Epix and Magellan are $0.99 each for 2 months (watching what I like then will cancel before the 2 months are up); Curiosity stream is $2, rarely look at it but at that price, I keep it. Will be upgrading Peacock tomorrow so that I can watch the Tour de France with English commentary, so another $5 for the one month. Grand total: $26

Many of the streaming channels offer trial subscriptions either free or reduced price, especially via my Roku. Plus there are free live and on-demand channels on the Roku channel, and my smart TV also offers free channels although most aren't worth the time IMO.

I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Disney+. Prime pays for itself in free shipping, so it's fine that I only watch it once in a while. I'm only interested in a small fraction of the Disney+ content (mostly the Marvel series and a bit the Star Wars stuff). The rest of the content makes me believe that they think 90% of their viewership is 12 years old or younger. But the stuff I am interested in makes it just barely worth it to me. Hulu's bundled with Disney+ and wouldn't be worth more than the extra $2 a month I'm paying for it.

Netflix produces a lot of content I enjoy. Still my favorite.

I keep limping along paying for UVerse but my annual plan expires soon and this may be the year I actually drop cable. Uverse is a legacy system that's no longer supported so the usual discounts I used to get by threatening to unsubscribe aren't offered and truth is, as far as tv watching is concerned it is a total waste for me now. We literally do not watch a single network tv show except for local/national news. The only channels we watch via UVerse are HGTV and Bravo along with occasional forays to CNN, MSNBC and the Weather channel if a storm's brewing. But now:

I have Discovery+ for my HGTV fix

I have Peacock as the go to for 'reality' junk tv

I have Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and Hulu for series and movies I want to see

I subscribe then drop channels for anything specific I want to watch like the Beatles Get Back

I need to do a streaming audit, I've only held on so long with UVerse because the combination of adding Hulu live and a bump in internet service was higher than leaving well enough alone. Well that and I was nervous about navigating the streaming world as a non techie Boomer.

I'm more confident now, it's not that hard any more to figure out the combination of inputs and clicks and remotes to use LOL.

We have Hulu as it is so much cheaper. From there Amazon Prime + PBS, and Netflix . I did a brief Starz trial for Outlander but found I rarely watched the channel.

I have found few things to watch on Starz; but all that I can bring to mind that I have watched are Outlander, and the series based on Phillipa Gregory's books (The White Queen, The Spanish Princess, etc). There may be one or 2 others. I think there is something that I was interested in coming up, so that is why I haven't cancelled. Otherwise, no interest in the majority of their offerings. I had Hulu while at the special price of $2.99.month but once that ended, I axed it.

Runninginplace, I"m wondering about the "bump in internet service" you mentioned. I have never had >30mps and find that is adequate for computer + streaming, even when DD was living here and was on her devices at the same time. It is cable based, though, not satellite.

I forgot, we do have Amazon Prime by default, but have never watched anything.

I'm still limping along with a TiVo that's well past its useful life. It's gotten quite noisy and is starting to pixilate some shows. When it finally gives up the ghost, I imagine I'll cut the cable cord. Currently I have cable plus Netflix, Prime and Apple TV Plus. Once the TiVo goes belly up, the plan is to get Hulu + Live TV, which will get me Bravo, HGTV and all the sports I want/need (Except maybe F1-- I might have to get Sky for that) and cancel everything else except Prime (which I use for the free shipping). I'll see if I really miss the other streamers. Chances are, I won't.
