perilla

Perilla is not an annual but is a cold sensitive perennial typically grown as an annual. And how toxic it may be is up for some discussion. It is used heavily in Asian cuisine. And since many plant it intentionally, not necessarily a weed either.

A plant cannot be both a perennial and an annual - it is one or the other, in this case a cold sensitive perennial. That it may be used as an annual/single season plant does not make it one.

"Also, the entirety of the plant is toxic; the flowering structures even moreso."

Explain that to the millions of Asians who regularly consume this plant. I'm sure they'd all be very surprised they are not dead. It has also been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.

Although toxic to horses and cattle, as mentioned, it has been used in asiatic cousine for some time.
