Tell us why yours is the best!

Our long-time president hosted their annual BBQ dinner, and it was off the hook this year. Over 40 people in attendance with burgers dogs and potluck. I skipped the burgers and dogs this year and focused on the salads and desserts and was not disappointed. Even my inner carnivore was quiet.

Who cares! show us the Hosta. Well, there's a reason he's the president and wins so many awards at the leaf shows. At this year's convention he walked away with the sweepstakes and best-in-show awards (or something like that). A few years ago, he lost some shade trees and built this shade structure since it was easier than moving his gargantuan Hosta.

It so hard to appreciate the size of these behemoths without something for scale. I think this one is Blue Mouse Ears.

Many daylilies (and other plants) abound in their garden. Here's the view to the front door.

While wandering around I wondered aloud if they would mind if we weeded while walking around. Since this is obviously a weed and should be promptly removed (and relocated a few miles away). Everyone around me agreed.

Later, during introductions, I suggested anyone could visit my garden if they liked. Someone asked if it was OK to weed while they were there. Which was funny on its own, but several people were laughing louder than the rest. After that, it became a competition as to who had the best weeds, mostly unaware of our outside (inside) joke. And yes, someone asked if they were smoking them.

Did I mention the streaking? Renowned hybridizer Doug Beilstein recently moved into the area and brought some young pups along for door prizes.

The top two are typical door prizes brought by (not so renowned) hybridizer Carlon from Cinci. And some free cement signs from Marilyn Ruff. It pays well to bring your spouse to these. That's 3 trips to the door prize table each. Now top that!

Eye candy! Do you know names?

Streakers are my favorites, it is so great they were shared.

I was all set to go to convention this year and then looked at my garden and decided it needed me more.

Here is one of my streakers. Weird one, but seems reasonaby vigorous for amont of white in it.

This is my kind of gardening. I used to be member, now I moved even further away from main group of people location. Those seedlings look like fun project!

Looks like you had a wonderful time. What a gorgeous yard to visit. My kind of place filled with hostas and daylilies. You are so lucky to have Doug Beilstein in your area, he has originated so many great hostas. Carlon always livens things up--I've been to hosta auctions where he stole the show. You will have to keep us posted on the streakers, it will be fun to see how many are somewhat stable. It's always good to get together with other hosta people, that way it's easy to justify why you need more hostas.

Thanks, I had trouble getting houzzz to not delete my post so I made the other one and changed references to weed and people's names and renamed my photo from streakers so as not to disturb the bot mod. Then this one popped back up. I've tried to delete the other post numerous times as it is not as complete, but now it won't go away.

Everyone got 3 trips to the door prize table. There were plenty of streakers to go around if you wanted some. I should have taken some more pics. Here's the one the pres registered called I Dream of Jeanne.

That was just the perfect day wasn't it.

I am thinking about asking my city about removing one of my sugar maple trees (again). But then I would need some kind of shade structure built. I'll show my husband the one that the president of your society built.

Nice white streaker. I didn't really catch the names. Names just lead to more buying and I'm trying to be good. Many of the ID tags were covered by foliage, so not easy to find. Below I dream of Jeanne may be Paul's Glory, I think the one in the middle is Atlantis. He has a lot of older cultivars and stuff from Van Wade. I think the big round green one might be American Green Angel or something Indian.

In my OP, I know the little white centered one in the lower right is Miss America. Then Spirit of St. Louis, Bigga Luigi?, Centerfold (for sure) and I think City Lights.

Gorgeous, and so neat and tidy!

Peren.all, thanks for remembering about my tree. I feel I need to stand up for the people with trees that are having difficulty with them---and we are one of them. I need my voice heard, and that is mainly why I will apply again to remove my tree.
