Poll: Which pattern coordinates better?

last modified: 4 years ago

Hi! I am looking for some help choosing which ottoman pattern coordinates better with the other items in this room? There will also be a cream/ beige sofa (not pictured).

Which one do you think works best?

Option 1:

Option 2:

Option 3:

Option 1
Option 2
Option 3

Option 1 and 2 are both good options, but I think the smaller scale of the stripes in Option 2 are best since they vary more from the scale of the stripes in the lumbar pillow and come across as "softer" in the pattern play. Option 3 ottomans have too much of a bold pattern so close to your rug. Good Luck!

    Been here before....

@deco I realize I posted a similar question but just purchased a new pattern and didn’t want to muddy the other thread and make it confusing 😂

Houzzers are happier when related issues stick to the same thread, unless it starts to gain hundreds of comments. Then it can become too ponderous to keep it going, and a change of thread is needed.

@deco thank you, I’ll know for next time!

No grey chairs then? and only furniture is the same light neutral? idk.

So aside from repeating the rosy-clay color from your art with pillow or throw, I'd repeat it in poufs...

have you chosen curtains? so I suppose I'd vote the solid, no. 2.

@everdebz i still have the gray chairs and I am getting a beige sofa! adding a gallery wall above the sofa on the long wall… for now…

I think you have enough pattern in the rug and pillows, as well as plenty of beige/gray neutral everything. Why not find ottomans in a complementary color from something else in the room, like the art? I cannot see much color there but the mauve and woudn’t suggest that, and the sky color is too light for what I’m suggesting, but maybe there is other color somewhere else, or introduce a color you love.

Why not leave the space under the console empty? IMO the ottomans are out of place.

For the grey chairs/ beige sofa to yet arrive -- do you have a plan, mood board? it sounds a bit tough to enliven grey and beige -- what color are the walls .. and gallery pieces - colorful and/or full of pattern "I hope."

Skip the ottomans. You are cluttering up a table that is already too small for the space. Less is more

Agree with jck910; the table is too small and that is why I suggested it might be a better fit in the window.

Don't worry about the ottomans. The console is too small for the wall. Fix that first.

Why do you require ottomans in this area?

Is the table really too small there? It seems to fit well when I’m looking at it from inside the room. I do have a tree I plan to stick in the corner which should help. I just fell in love with that table!! 😔

It should be 2/3 the width of the wall for example if the wall is 100 inches the table should be 67 inches wide

Thanks! Does that rule apply if you place things on either side of it, like a plant?

The console is 55” and the wall is 83” for reference

That is 2/3 but from your picture it looks too small

So you need a 62" console to fill 75% of the wall and get a better balanced look. Does your measurement include the bump out right of the light switch?

Love it? well, keep it. :) Beverly's interesting X stool / ottomans should be nice... [?] goodness, why not a subtle color?

The art has subtle color, and this comes with antiqued glaze or no glaze- could 1 or 2 be at the sides instead of under?

While on the topic of balance, any input on orientation of frames above the sofa along the long wall? 2 rows of 4 across horizontally? 2 rows of 3 across horizontally? 2 rows of 4 across vertically? I’m sure there are rules about this as well :) Frames are 16x20. Canvas print on the short wall is horizontal if that matters. Thank you!

Photos will be from a family photo session on the beach. Colors are similar to the colors in the canvas print on the short wall! I really want the photos to be a main focus in the room, hence the muted colors elsewhere :)

Thank you for the recommendations, @everdebz!

FYI we picked up the sofa tonight- will be putting a new beige slipcover on tomorrow. Here’s the gallery art above the sofa to give an idea of dimensions…leaning toward 6 total, 2 rows of three horizontally…

Consider a photo ledge. It will help fill the wall.

I do like the photo ledge idea! I also like the gallery wall…now I’m torn lol

If needed, beige cover. How will sharp white mats/ dark frames look with wall paint and sofa, etc. [though neutral] ?

Thanks everyone for the help!!!! i just wanted to post an after pic :) (I did buy a beige slipcover for the sofa as well but kinda like the cream so may stick with it for a bit!)
