Blooming on Saturday

After Thursday's and Friday's rain (about 2 inches), the flowers were beautiful this morning. Bob and I spend several hours outside evaluating and making some crosses. With overcast skies it was a good day for photography. Here are some blooming today.

Gisela Meckstroth is new to the garden this spring.

Happy Holidays to You is short with a smallish bloom, but it is the brightest red with teeth in the garden.

Heavenly Stuck on You is also new to the garden. It is a very large flower.

Political Shenanigans had its ffo today.

Ruby Sparkler is another new one. (And I said we are downsizing?)

Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding is starting to bloom.

Second Horizon looks good today.

Terrorsaur is an offspring of Happy Holidays to You. The flower is larger but the red is not as good. It is toothier, though.

Some seedlings will be in the comments.

It was a good day for seedlings. Here are a few of the best today.

I like this one--Susan Ruoff X Fruitful Discovery.

I love the flower on this one, but it just won't give us the bud count we want. It's in the low teens, but it does have instant rebloom.

Here is another with bud count in the low teens. This is Belle of Ashwood X Cactus Blossom.

This is not what I hope for when I made this cross, but I think the color is amazing. This is Explosion in the Paint Factor X Ruby Grandeur. Since we don't have any other striped tets, I tried crossing Explosion with strongly color solids. It didn't work, but I still like this flower.

This is Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding X Man-eating Bat.

I really like this bicolor--Jena Sallenger X Patricia Ann's Calliopsis.

These last two really impressed me. They are out of Bob's fulva breeding. In fact, Fulva Korean is a grandparent. The cross is (F. Korean X Ted's Tribute to Linda) X Colorful Chaos Nelli.

    That's all for today.

The seedlings are my favorites today. The red Exposion baby is very interesting, I would love to see it again! I also found the bitone Jenna sallenber seedling appealing, I like the strong colored petals with the pale sepals.

Second Horizon is really pretty. Happy Holidays to You and Terrosaur realy stand out in color. But I think the seedlings are the best today. Really outstanding.

I love the colors and form of Political Shenanigans. I suspected that was a Clement name :) . Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding is a pretty one. Is it usually a darker red for you? I wondered if the heat and dry conditions were making it look lighter. Of the seedlings, the pink one with watermark is my favorite. I'd love to have a piece of that one to cross with some of my pink seedlings. I'm also drawn to the bicolor--Jena Sallenger X Patricia Ann's Calliopsis.

Debra, Lady Stephanie is usually a bit more red, but not a lot. The color for me has never been very saturated. Also, I have a lot of that pink seedling. I will send you a piece.

What is the height of the Lady Stephanie? Is it still one you hold in high regard? Some intense colors in the seedlings. Seems to me that low teens with instant rebloom is good for this area. I too like the color. Giesela, as I recall, has low initial bud count. I ordered it last year and this year, but have gotten no response. As you know, we lost Richard's wife Jan this year after a prolonged illness.

Terrorsaur is quite eye catching in a clump. Nice selection of seedlings. Glad you got rain.

I really like Susan Ruoff X Fruitful Discovery.is a lovely bicolor. Explosion in the Paint Factor X Ruby Grandeur is a delicious color, Nancy and I do indeed like the last two seedlings quite well indeed. As for Gisela Meckstroth it is one that would really catch your eye with those colors, but the two clumps; Happy Holidays to You and Terrorsaur? They are stunners! What a fun post! I enjoyed it a lot.
