Whats the style in the interior of your home? Do you have any other wall treatments going on? You want whatever you pick to flow with your home, not like you just needed to do something.

I’d do it in a heartbeat if the exterior is traditional or has traditional elements. Also true for other interior details that help define a style for the house. Without seeing those, it’s hard to say.

The interior is a modern farm house. I am helping my son and daughter-in-law. I was not necessarily thinking of that molding. Any suggestions on wall molding that could be used?

I think that tall rectangular moulding would accentuate the tall ceilings and add interest to an otherwise kind of boring entry. I also think that to make it work w the rest of the home that the moulding element should be repeated elsewhere so it looks intentional as far as design and not just slapped up there. The good news is that the architecture is pretty plain, you just have to work around a window and door. Is there crown moulding in the home, just base moulding?

Do you think if we wrapped it around to the two side walls on either side of the entry would work? And could we go 3/4 the way up with wall molding in entry?

Nope, I would bridge across from wall to wall and create a storage areas that is accessible from one of the second floor rooms.

You can still have a tall ceiling by doing a step-up into the storage area. As is, the entry is too tall & narrow and is out of proportion.

Then maybe some moulding in the new lowered ceiling entry.

Can you show a picture? I don’t understand what you are saying. There is no second floor anywhere near the entry.

So the rooms on both sides of the foyer have Jolly Green Giant ceilings, too? Maybe it works in the larger rooms but not working in the smaller foyer.

The problem with adding trim in foyer is that it will end up making the room look even taller and more out of scale.

Add simple beams midway to add warmth and give the foyer a more a more human scale!

All that tall molding collects dust and is a pain to clean.
