Asbestos before remodel!!
We are about to start our new addition/ remodel project in the bay area. We sent a sample drywall for testing and found that we have 2% chrysotile(asbestos) in the drywall compound. Because the addition is at the back of the house, we were planning to live in the house but not so sure anymore. The GC is saying because its only 2% he will seal everything properly and should be ok but I wanted to check with this group with any real experiences.
Did anyone go through this? Should just sealing up the space be sufficient? Did you use a GC certified in removing asbestos to do the drywall work(please recommend)? Also even when if we move out, are there any tests we should be doing before moving in, to detect presence of asbestos in air? What else should we be testing for asbestos? It's a home built in the 50s and we will be ripping off carpet to lay hardwood and also putting in new ducts for HVAC. Currently have one of those wall heaters. Also can concrete contain asbestos? They will be demoing the outside hardscape which is concrete.
Any other helpful suggestions are very welcome. Also any recommendation for asbestos specialists we should talk about this for all the question we have?
