Opening windows that were painted shut

I had my house painted a few years ago, and when he painted the window trim he painted all of my windows closed! So now there's no way to open them.

This wasn't really a problem since I never opened them, anyway. But now I'm looking to install a portable AC in the bedroom, but can't because I have nowhere for the exhaust.

Any tips on getting the window open?

The house is a split level, and the window I'm working on is on the top floor. So anything I do is with me on a ladder, about 30' above the ground.

I tried cutting the paint along the lines where it had been painted shut, but it still wouldn't open. I'm tempted to try using a small prybar, but I'm afraid that I might crack the glass! And I don't have $6k+ to spend on new windows right now :-/
