Would love some feedback on my home office! Any suggestions to make it better?

Seeing only two walls and a door leaves us a bit blind about your office, but you need some task lighting; a desk lamp for sure. Who can watch TV on that wall? I like the rug but it looks like its for a nursery and doesn't echo the green your seating seems to establish as the main colorway. You could probably go up a size on it too. That short stone-looking table is not quite right. For one thing, side tables should arrive 1" above or below the arms of the seating. Exchange it for a "C" table or else switch to a ceramic garden stool slightly in front of the chair just for setting down an item. Maybe you could angle the chair in the corner, or put a floor lamp in that corner so the chair makes a good reading spot.

Other option to repeat gold legs, and some have dressy metallic, which I've hardly seen....

The rug is light-hearted, an Ikea / Etsy look... pastels. Chairs seem teal, but at least they have straight lines... idk does that help? :)

I found a piece of art that might have the vibe. Course can use the chair color for a couple casual accessories.

Lamps and you’re done. It’s adorable, bright and happy. I’d love to work there! You did a great job.

IMO a home office is a very persoanl space . What do you need form the space , like do you work from home? Why is there a TV mounted next to the ceiling? From what I can see a great spot for doing home banking but not really condusive for working from home

Here is the rest, it’s not a full office, just a lofted space at the top of the stairs!

The TV is from when we used to have a workout space up here and can be moved/replaced with art!! Love the lamps you guys suggested!

I might put the desk where the chair is, facing out into the room, you would still have a view of the large window and face the chair toward the desk.

Seeing the rest, if you need a pathway to the door and stairs, that may be as large a rug as you need. I do think the colors are wrong, unless you plan to change the green chairs for something more in alignment with the rug colors. How about some art on the walls, including the stairwell? Doesn't have to be expensive; some framed posters would do, or you could do blow up canvases of family vacation pix or kids/grands.

I think this is cute! My main question though is whether the desk/chair combo is genuinely comfortable enough for you. If it is, great, but I often find these kinds of stylish chairs and desks don't actually work for the height i need my arms at. Short people problems, maybe.

The other thing I thought of was your background for video calls. Are you on calls much? I know you can always do a virtual background or blur it, but it looks like right now your camera would just be pointing at the stairs/coat tree/garbage. Could you maybe add a tall plant over there, and perhaps some art over the stairs?

Love the idea to put the tree behind me!! I am on calls a lot and my background is just the stair railing. Also, the chair is honestly just so my dog has somewhere to sit 😂 and found it cuter than a dog bed and filled up the space more. But open to other options if you think the space could be filled better!!!

Oh no I like the armchair and dog seating is important! I was questioning the chair at the actual desk. But if it works for you, that's great.

Your space has a great first impression and the green chairs are a nice touch. The desk looks small on the long wall, consider either turning it 90 degrees or shifting it to the corner that the TV is on. Placing a small table or another simple desk in front of it will give you more work surface and keep your monitor and cords on the back wall. A work chair on rollers will make it easier to scoot back and forth and the chair you're using now can go on the other side of the table/desk.

It looks like you have a floor outlet in front of the stair railing. You can angle your chair and ottoman there and create a reading area or a place to watch TV. Move the large trash can to the closet or get a small one under your desk.

Railing is backdrop you said - could try anything almost draped over the railing, according to your field, and your color likes. Colorful throws. If you need taller, houzz has many screens with art on it... textures of bamboo or wood...

Outlet by the railing? idk lighting, but 1 or 2 floor /table lamps? etc...

    both sides are fabric on solid wood - 47 x 71 "

Drape over, tack photos or diagrams. Others seem meant to be painted, and are labelled diy.

JT, I like the idea to have the desk separate the room. I tested it out and I like it, but there are some caveats. My desk is not meant to be seen/used both ways so the back of the desk doesn’t look as visually pleasing. Also is the back of the monitor an eye sore? Having the window behind me doesn’t allow for the best lighting for Zoom meetings. And there is a lot of open space so I’m unsure how to arrange the rest of the furniture. Lmk your thoughts/suggestions

I understand your concerns about looking at the back of the monitor when entering the room and the lighting during video calls. If you like the general idea of this layout, consider moving your desk and monitor to the corner between the windows so you're looking out the window when you work, then adding another narrow desk or writing table (about the same width and wood tone as your working desk) in front of it.

I like your 3rd photo and how you turned the rug. Like you said, it does leave a gap - a possible solution is to add another rug, perhaps a plush faux animal rug with an irregular shape so it looks intentional and brings the reading area into the desk grouping.

Here is a photo with two desks which are too wide for your space but gives an idea of placement.

Okay starting fresh, the workable space is about 8 ft by 12 ft and my desk is the only thing that needs to stay ! Thoughts on the blank slate?

Late night thoughts: I like the rug 'framed' in almost a nook look. I think another would do as well. That chair looks so different in sunlight.

I looked through your photos - can you post any here?

We turn lamps on for Zoom meetings... has that worked?

For Zoom meetings, you can get a lightweight 4 panel room divider to put behind you, though a shade or blinds will block the sun better. I use a room divider because my office is very large and my voice would echo on the audio. The room divider keeps your voice “enclosed” if it is on the long side of your room.

It also is a consistent background for you if behind you.

You need strong, consistent lighting on your face for Zoom meetings as well. If they are a critical part of your work you should consider a professional light in front of you to evenly light your face.

    Here is the chair!

The chair is thrifted but I could try to find the original and get another, or get a new set. I just got it so my dog could sit up here with me😂 thought? And the table is part of a 3-piece vintage set, but this one doesn’t fit in our living room so im trying to make it work up here! I could get rid of it but if I can make it work that would be awesome.

    Plants, plants, plants!

Aside from the obvious reasons we add plants to our spaces, there are so many underlying benefits - especially in workspaces! Reduced stress and anxiety, greater focus and productivity, higher sense of wellbeing, sound absorption.

Adding an extra plant or two to the space can be a huge help - and as it is a small space we are happy to help out if you want to look at a living wall or a moss wall! Reach out to amanda@greenteriors.ca if you're interested!

    Happy working!

Float the desk in the middle of the room

I'm not fond of 'executive' office look, facing out. How about desk facing wall, to left of the 2 windows.

Your end table in the corner, with 2 chairs at side, under windows.

Zoom: I posted screens, and are solids too [rather than art on it].

Or doggie bench under window that's next to your desk - long shot that your dog is small - but here's double duty idea:
