grass clippings during planting

I have recently started using grass clippings as mulching for perennials and I suspect I am already seeing results. I am curious if grass clippings can be used as a filler mixed in with other soil in the excavated root hole below the root position during planting.

Not something I'd recommend.

First, the planting hole should not be deeper than the base of the rootball to begin with. So no need for any "filler".

Second, fresh organic matter like grass clippings are going to rapidly decompose once buried and will shrink. A lot. Shrinkage of material under the rootball will result in settling or a plant that is planted too deep.

Perfectly good as a mulch. But keep them above ground :-)
