If you don't want bees pollinating flowers, don't grow anything with flowers. And those bees have absolutely no interest in anyone walking by. I have worked around bees in my garden for over 50 years and have never gotten stung. I've gently waved them away while I cut things back or do other chores. I repeatedly walk through and over groundcover thymes in full bloom and buzzing with bees. They are drunk with pollen and have no interest in stinging anyone except perhaps if you step on one in bare feet. It's good for children to learn that bees are NOT enemies and are not waiting for people to appear so they can sting them.

Exactly. And Lavender does not repel mosquitoes. When the flowers fade clip the bushes back to keep them compact.

I agree bees are best ignored, but good luck convincing a scared child. Seems your best option is to dig them up and have nothing where they were. You just don't have room for anything that won't spill onto the walkway

The mums are fine in the walkway, Just don't put the lavendar there. Some people fear bees and some have a violent reaction the stings.

If I take the lavender out what should I replace it with ? I’ve tried lilies nice but last 2wks . Something that fits in the space

I would do annuals -- low zinnias or marigolds. Colorful and in my experience they don't attract many bees, mostly small butterflies -- so maybe you can get your kids used to bugs that are less scary to them.
