I'll second that.

Well, I'm semi-retired so I have time to keep an eye on them. There's always some kind of bug going after them. In spring it's aphids, sometimes scale or mites. Right now whiteflies are bad.

Also, do you keep that tree on the cold side for winter or is it grown on the warmer side?

I have one and it will be my first winter growing one and not sure what to do.

As for mix, I use 1 part commercial potting mix to 1 part Home Depot Orchid bark (or screened pine fines) to 1 part coarse Perlite (if I can find it).

Fertilizers: I use Citrus-tone organic fert worked into the soil surface three times a growing season. I also use a water-soluble all purpose fertilizer for vegetables half-strength every other week or so, with Ironite and fish emulsion added when I have it available. I don't obsess over fertilizers though.

In winter the trees are in my heated garage with a temperature range of 45º to 60ºF on average in winter. On the colder side mid-winter. Warmer in Spring when the sun helps heat up the garage (it's partially insulated). There is some light from south windows, though not much, and I have lights on timers.

My trees get from 4 to 8 hours of direct sun a day, depending on where they are sitting. I find the Shiranui is better with less sun. If the root ball dries out too fast, I can get fruit split.
