Trying to decide on floor tone for basement

So I thought I was going to try to build a Spanish tapas bar in my basement and put this pewter vinyl tile over and sometimes replacing the moldering acoustic tile. It's kind of fun for a basement entertainment area and I only mildly regret it.

I started painting the woodwork white and then started researching LVP, as a floor would be my next project. I found out you need to remove the baseboards or put shoe molding or quarter round on and I'd have to repaint anyway, so I just finished the utility closet doors and so on.

Now I was almost sure I wanted this dark Mannington LVP pictured, but now I'm wondering if this is a good idea. I should probably go with a lighter floor. I am going to redecorate and get new furniture so that's not really an issue, but I tend to prefer mid-to-light browns wood, in a modern or Scandanavian style.

And if anyone has any advice on what to do with this hideous 90s banister. I swear I saw it in a sitcom I can't remember which one.

Get a LVP that is lighter but has some tones from the ceiling. I did Cali Pro LVP Aged Hickory throughout my house and I love the darker character marks that tie in with my black counters and black feature wall behind my bar.

Dark ceiling and now DARK floor in a basement?? Wrong move. LOVE the railing on the stairs.

Light Blonde, not white floor color for modern and Scandy style. It's a neutral color that will help brighten your space.

Well I can see from looking at Houzz pictures, it's been done...but mostly in super formal spaces. I don't care if it looks like a hip restaurant, but I guess getting something close in tone to the ceiling is dumb. Argh. I like to think i can put together furniture and decor stuff, but this whole room design stuff is just well beyond me. Having good taste is hard. The dark ceiling was probably a mistake, but it's better than white tile? Kind of?

As for that crazy 90s banister thing, I guess I just have to find a carpenter to take it out. It's so obnoxious I wonder if I could paint it red and put a pink flamingo next to it and call it a design feature.

I like the ceiling, it's different, and if it fits your vision then it's the right thing. I do agree about getting a lighter color floor. Just try to avoid the stripey look some LVP has and stay away from gray tones.

Was it the Brady Bunch? That's not a big expanse of railing cap. You should be able to find something to replace it easily at a big box store. We just replaced a 14 foot expanse of hideous mid-'90's era railing, so I really think you're getting off easy. :-)

Is that what you call it? Railing cap? I'm not even sure what the term for such a feature is so I'm having trouble googling it. You can't tell from the angle, but the whole thing doesn't need to be that long. So I think you could chop it down and back, but the stairs stick out past the adjoining wall so I see why it's there. Just doesn't need to be that big. And I'm not sure what you would put on top of it railing wise, maybe nothing?

Incidentally if anyone else wants to chime in on floor tone, I am pretty much set on SW Light French Gray...Just a tad darker than the Zircon I was sure I would use for months.
