Does anyone have experience using Hi-Mac Opal for reaidential kitchen counters?

We do NOT plan to backlight them. The 2 designers whose showrooms I visited looked at me funny when I suggested it for our counters.

Some background:

We are completely redoing our kitchen and are removing 30+ year old corian counters that are in pristine condition. I also adore coved backsplashes and think they are totally superior for keeping clean. For this reason and for costs we are heavily leaning towards solid surface instead of quartz.

The counters we are removing are in the typical ”pebbled” pattern, which I don’t mind but my husband hates and thinks looks dated (fair enough). Because we have so many coved backsplashes in our design, a veined pattern is also out (the seams can look super obvious and funky, whch sort of defeats the purpose of the seamless look).

SO we are left with solid colors as the safest and most logical option, and white fits best with our 2 different color cabinets.

I worry the typical solid whites (Corian Glacier White for ex) will look too stark. I love the Hi-Mac Opal because it has some depth to it — literally, since it is slightly translucent. It’s a solid white but reads softer and more interesting.

But I also don't want to be that person who thinks she knows better than the professionals. But just because they haven't seen it done doesn't convince me it's not a good idea?
