What bar pulls and where?

4 years ago

Wet bar, picture attached. For the cabinetry (pantry) area on the right I have two questions;

1) for the doors that are at counter height, should I put the pulls at the top, center, or bottom of the doors? I have shown all three options. Traditionally I guess you would center them? But part of me wants to put them at the top so they are grouped with the pulls for the upper doors.

2) for the three wide drawers below counter level, would you use the same pulls as all the other cabinets to be consistent, or would you use a longer pull? I kind of like the look of the longer pull on the bigger drawer fronts, but in my regular kitchen that has an island with wide drawers, I note they just used the same pulls as all the other drawers and cabinets.

The regular pulls are 6-1/8" wide (3-1/4" o.c.). The wide pulls are 15" wide (12-1/8" o.c.)

Another option, if using the longer pulls on the drawers might be to also use them centered on the pantry doors.

    IMO pulls in proportion to the doors and drawers and certsinly not 3 on a door those cabinets cry out fo simple stainless pulls and this is what I mean by proportion

    They are not suggesting 3 pulls on a door. Rather, they are showing 3 different positions asking which one is best! I like the look of the pull in the lowest position on those doors.

    Patricia, if you would read the post in its entirety before furiously racing to be the first to comment (typos and all), you would know that the OP taped three placement options to the door. Also, punctuation is your friend. IMO of course. 😂

    I'm only planning to use one handle on the door, I just thought I'd tape one in each of the three positions and you could cover the other two with your finger or something to get an idea of the look of a single handle in each position. I guess I could have posted multiple pictures but that seemed like overkill. I figured there was probably a rule for doors at that height, but it's not as easy to come by as for hardware placement on upper and lower cabinets.

    Although not exactly the same, I have found one picture that did it Wendy's way in that sort of situation and put the handle at the bottom of the door.

    Hi Frank. I am so close to being finished with a kitchen remodel where I did all drawers below counter level (except for the sink and in a microwave vase cabinet). The drawers are different sizes though so I went through many sizes of pull before figuring it out. I used the same pull for both doors and drawers, just different lengths. On the uppers the handle went at the bottom of the door, on the large lower pantry doors, sink doors, and microwave cabinet doors they went on the top, all drawers had hardware proportional to the drawer placed in the middle. I’ve attached some pics so you can see what it looks like. Good luck!

    Thanks EAW. One thing holding me back from proportional sized handles is if someone (or myself) wants to change the hardware in the future. I'm thinking 3.75 o.c. is common, but selection would be limited for 12-1/8" o.c.?

    I also think it might look too fussy with too many different lengths of bar pull

    Did you consider putting the handles on the 3/4-height pantry doors in the middle vertically, or at doorknob height? Why did you choose the upper corner rather than lower down? Not disagreeing with your choice, just curious.

    It might seem trivial choices, but once I drill those holes in my $10K+ cabinets, I'm committed.
