Friday's Blooms

It was another hot one with more heat this weekend. My dog managed to do some digging and got into the seedling bed and dug out several plants and mangled the bed after I took some pictures. Apparently her instincts were kicked into high gear after she managed to kill a bird. I asked my kids, why didn't they stop her? Once she gets going she is hard to stop. Her punishment was a bath when I got home. Now I have to repair the bed. I know there was one seedling that I was going to evaluate for possible introduction. Now that will have to wait until next year.

That picture of Green Imperial Pigeon almost makes me swoon. I also like Green Icon which is similar and a Dormant but GIP is a notch above. How does it overwinter for you being as it's an evergreen?.......Joy to Behold is another great picture of yours. Will have to look that up too............. Naturally I like the pinks.........Your poor doggy getting a bath for digging. Our neighbors dog goes crazy digging in his yard looking for that elusive mole that's tearing up all our lawns. If he catches it, no bath for him; instead a big ole tasty Milky Bone.................Maryl

GIP was supposed to be FOUR BEASTS IN ONE. I made the purchase 3 years ago and it has overwintered here with no problems. That is unusual for a Lambertson. I like it. Still waiting on 4 BEASTS IN 1. GREEN ICON is on my list to obtain.

Interesting about Green Imperial Pigeon. Lots of white midribs in the Bennetts. I like that, though for years, hybridizers sought to eliminate that characteristic. Performance of Joy to Behold? A lot of Shooters don't flourish here. Not a Benz fan, but Shirley's Red Dragon looks interesting. Parent Shabby Chic is not a favorite. I think Debra grew Lunar Empire; wonder what she thought about it. I see it begins to open the day before. I can see why Finder's Delight, with its blend of colors and prominent green, is growing in your rankings. Very interesting post.

Unfortunately, I would not assume that three winters assures hardiness. For three years, Jessica Lynn Bell performed decently. Now for two years in a row, short scapes, just after I told someone that it had done well here. Ethel Buccola for several years did well and now has gone downhill.

I like Green Imperial Dragon too, but so many stunners in this group. Lambertson and Petit daylilies do not tend to like me. Your seedlings look great too.

Sweeping Shadows also has proven to be a bit tender. I don't have the space to indulge things that bloom on short scapes for many, if not most, years.
