some plants.. otherwise known as weeds.. simply shouldnt be grown in amended good gardening soil ... or ever ferted .... nor even watered ..

and i suspect it something like this one ...

i see its chicory time on the MI roadways.. if you ever leave suburbia.... they grow on the edge of salted roads..and average 12 to 18 inches ...

i once captured one early spring .. pretty distinctive leaves.. and planted it in a seedling bed of aged potting soil at least a foot deep in my otherwise high organic MI peat livonia garden ...

it also was 8 feet tall by late summer.. lol ...

needless to say... i didnt do that again .. lol

@ken_adrian Adrian MI cold Z5, I was wondering what those pretty blue flowers were all over the roadsides! The orange lilies are past bloom, now it’s loosestrife and chicory decorating the roadsides! We sure have some pretty ditches here in Michigan.

Purple loosestrife may be pretty, but it's invasive -- I actually feel dismayed when I see large stands of it, it chokes out native species.
