Need help for my bedroom makeover

last modified: 4 years ago

Hello,

My bedroom has always looked stale, as you can see in the pictures. I’ve lived with it for a while, but I recently decided it was time to change things up.

I wanted a major makeover, but I was quickly stumped by all the design decisions I had to make, so I came here for help.

Here are all the changes and renovations I’m willing to do:

  • reorganize the furniture
  • add new small furniture (table lamp, plant pot, pictures, etc.)
  • paint the walls and ceiling
  • repaint the bed, nightstand, and dresser
  • replace the chandelier
  • add carpet flooring

I’m looking for a gray and blue color scheme. Please suggest the precise furniture and color that I should pick for each job.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. Please mind the untidy bedroom. 😅

Do you need that couch in your bedroom? Your bed looks so sad jammed up against your window! If you moved the couch out, desk to the other wall and centered the bed on the wall its on with end tables on both sides it would give some breathing room to that wall.

As far as colors I would make sure they work with those beautiful curtains. You might get more help if you post to scale measurements of your room as photos can be deceiving.

Your bedroom is pretty much a blank canvas. The possibilities are limitless. See one example below.

So first furniture layout…place the loveseat where the desk is…hopefully there is enough room on that wall for the loveseat/nicest and/bed. Shift it all to the left as much as you can with still having clearance for the closet door. Then slide the chest/tv to the right where the loveseat is in the photo. And move the desk where the chest/tv is in the photo. Tidy up the books on the desk shelf and get a desk chair. Then shop for bedding that coordinates with the draperies…at least a comforter/decorative shams for two more pillows/lumbar pillow. Then shop for a large area rug that coordinates with the bedding/sofa and covers most of the floor…with at least the front legs of the loveseat on the rug. Then a slender table lamp for the nite stand. And wall decor for above loveseat and bed.

@mojavemaria I figured that the couch matches well with the drapes and the dark gray accents in the bed, nightstand, and dresser.

As for the bed placement, this is the only place I could place a bed this size and still have enough clearance for both the closet and the bedside light switch.

I’ll also send the measurements to help us out.

@Susan unfortunately, there wasn’t enough clearance for the couch, especially after moving the bed slighly to the left to fit in flush with that wall edge.

IMO a bedroom rework strats with the bed and bedding. So what is the bedding ?To me it looks like this needs to be amulti purpose space so please give us some info . The measurements are a must and also the size of the bed.Are you male or female or a couple More info gets more help. Are all those things needed in the space like the desk the sofa etc.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting sorry for the vagueness. The bedroom is 4.8 x 4.2 meters (without the entryway), and the bed is a standard queen size.

I am definitely going to upgrade the bedding as part of the rework. I am considering this bedding from IKEA:

I am a male, hence my choice of a gray-blue color scheme.

I’d like to keep the sofa, if possible, but I’m willing to scrap the TV and other distracting objects like the untidy books on the shelf.

Oh that’s too bad…I was hoping the bed and sofa would fit on the same wall so you could watch tv from bed or sofa. If you don’t mind me asking…is this your bedroom in a family home or in a house you share with housemates? I’m a little confused as to why you want to keep the sofa but scrap the tv? The reason I ask is…if you are going to keep all of the furniture pieces, there’s not much else that can be done as far as furniture layout goes…except flip-flopping the furniture to the opposite wall or have the chest/desk trade places. So figure out the furniture layout you like best and we can help with rug size/placement. Do you want to watch tv from bed or sofa? You have a nice option for bedding, but there’s no blue. The color blocking will put a lot of graphic pattern on the bed. Will art be going on the wall? Do you need any other storage…hooks, towel bars, book shelves? Just things to consider to level up your room’s form and function. Keep pulling options together and try to visualize how they will work together in your room.

Since you're unable to move the couch, we think the only thing we might change is flip the desk with the dresser/TV. You might be able to also add a rug under the bed and where the sofa is to define the spaces more. Here are some bedroom designs we have done. Please note the bedding, lamps, wallpaper, pillows, artwork, and plants.
