Compare to parasol mushroom. They appear often in pots. For any mushroom, unless it is poisonous AND you eat it, it's harmless to you and your plants.

I don't have any info about mushrooms and cats.

I'm curious what the flowers were which were meant to grow in the pouches. I've not come across these and not many plants grown from seed for their flowers do well indoors. I've only ever seen them for outdoor use.

i think you were fated for failure from the seller.. from the moment they included that potting media ...

you be much further ahead.. if you bought your own quality media.. learned how to water it properly ... and then buy your own seeds.. rather than getting ripped off with bad media and dead seed ..

and now that i reread.. im wonder what kind of FLOWERS are grown indoors.. from seed ... now im wondering if you really got ripped off ...

This mushroom is called a Pleurotus ostreatus, and it is not toxic to cats. However, the spores can travel to other plants, so it is best to keep an eye on your other plants.

If it is Pleurotus ostreatus - and I would never take the word of any mushroom ID just based on a single online photograph - then there is no concern for other plants in the vicinity. It is a saprophytic fungi and lives off of dead organic matter, not a live plant pathogen. Saprophytic mushrooms are common visitors to many potting soils, especially those that are water retentive and stay quite damp.

But I do question the ID of this as being an oyster mushroom. These tend to grow on decaying or dead trees, not in potting soils, and grow in clumps or clusters, not individually.

Agree - No way it is Pleurotus ostreatus - oyster mushroom. I grow them. They have their gills continue down the stem (but not all the way down to the bottom). This is a very distinctive feature of oyster mushrooms. And as gardengal said they grow on dead trees and not in soil. I do not know what the OP's mushroom is but they do frequently appear in potting soil and mulch. Parasols have a veil and a bit of it is left behind on the stem when the mushroom opens up. The stem on this one is smooth. They usually show up in grassy areas.
