how did you install the fireplace panels?

I love this design! I have a fireplace indoor outdoor I want to create with this same large scale panel idea but my question is do these actually install with nothing behind ( see thru) as they appear or what is behind them to create the effect?

You see through the panels. You actually see the metal chimneys going up if you look closely at the gaps. I built 1" steel tube frames for each metal panel and hid the connections of these frames to the wall. Then I covered each steel tube frame with these custom metal panels.
