I think you need to stay oin the same color palette as the lower cabinets and find the color that can be cut at least 50% so the lightest one on th color card and then cut to be as light as possible but the same family.

It has been called a 'shadow colour' So light that at 1st look it is white or off white but your walls will have the slightest tinge of the green from the lower cabinets.

Take a drawer face to a Ben Moore store - have them match the drawer face, buy the PAINT. and have your painter adjust his price quote..

That's your wall color. Match to the upper cabinets : ) Cut that white to a half strength and that's your ceiling . No green, please.. Not unless and until you change the palette in the adjacent family room. Not sure what you were thinking with the lower cabinets, unless prepared to do that: )

Have you tested Repose Gray. It actually works well with the green, but I don't know it will shift next to the Taj Mahal counter and warm cabinets. Not crazy about the computer rendition, but it may work better than trying to bring in another warm white that isn't the exact white as the cabinets.

You could see if Behr can color match your cabinets and just change sheen.

The next issue is how the white looks next to Repose Gray. The rooms are adjacent so they need to work together.

Another option is to use a green that works with the grays and warmth of the cabinets and Taj Mahal counter. This is Koi Pond on the kitchen walls Repose gray in the background. Used the lightest picture you took to grab the counter top and backsplash .

How do you plan to pull the green into the living room? It needs to relate to both rooms not just stand alone.

i knew i wanted dark cabinets on bottom but didn’t like the standard grey and navy, they are cold and gloomy to me. That’s how we ended up with the green.

I’m trying to find some accent chairs with green that i like to put in that corner window of the living room. Also trying to find wall art for over the couch between the sconces with some green.

There will be plants too. I’ve been looking into accent rugs as well. more things turn up in boho decor searches but that’s decor theme overall doesn’t appeal to me. i like victorian rugs though

This is really hard because this remodel wasn’t something we were prepared for or even wanted to do. There’s been a lot of quick decisions made along the way and a lot of out of pocket expenses. The budget is really dwindling so if you have any other tips I would totally appreciate them, especially affordable ones!

i get that the light mint color makes it work, it just gives everything a feel i don’t like. I really dislike pastels. this home is 3,800 sq. ft and Repose Grey from top to bottom. It was nice when we purchased the home but now it’s a problem. The dining room is off the kitchen too with the same grey.

If you're out of money, don't add to the existing problems. You don't need a "color" . Let the cabinets be surrounded by same color, as uppers, flat finish, and get to a Ben Moore store where they will match it in the store. Unscrew a drawer face.

Save the REST of the Gray problem for when you have recovered financially from this. Go talk to the painter, get the quote adjusted down, and you get the paint - or hold him responsible for getting it matched exactly at the Behr location of his preference

SW has their color sample quart canisters on sale for $6. Go pick up a few and try different ones out on your wall. I would look at possibly matching the upper cabinet color on the wall.

When my mom was old she often said some of her happiest memories were of when she was young and poor and had a tiny house and my dad was in school and they were struggling to make ends meet with three babies under 5. She loved the grand home we built when I was little (last of 6 kids), but her point was that having a big, impressive house didn't make the memories. It was the life we lived inside that home and the love that was shared that made us a family and provided us all with wonderful memories of growing up together.

You have had a bad experience, made quick decisions and are living with stress that is not conducive to building happy memories. Follow Jan's advice. Get a white that matches the cabinet doors and call it a day. Stop and enjoy life in your home. Regroup and when you don't feel so stressed come back to how this will all work together. Take your time finding the things that will tie the rooms together. Enjoy the process, enjoy going to art shows and shopping for furniture and putting your stamp on the design. Celebrate when you find the perfect rug or piece of art and most importantly - enjoy spending time in your home with your family along the way.

You may want to turn or float your sectional. It may give an airier and better flow from kitchen to the family room.

I love that idea but it is a reclining sofa. My husband is really tall and wanted to be able to lay his head back. That’s how we ended up with a sofa more appropriate for a media room than a livingroom, this one was a lot better than others. I think i could be extremely wealthy if i could put a tall back decrotive sofa on the market. i would assume this is a common issue among a wife that wants pretty vs a tall guy that wants comfort.

do you have any of the Taj leftover? normally they will give you the scraps. if you did, I'd say have it cut to replace the tile around your fireplace.

Personally I like Behr paint over the more expensive BM, but it's up to you. if you find a color you really like from BM, go get the paint yourself and have the painter deduct the behr price from his charge.

Saguaro is a yellow green. so bring in yellows and warm beige tones to accent in the other room w/it.

Do you have any art? something like this piece is the perfect mix w/your kitchen colors. If you do a white wall, I'd bring in these color w/art, pillows, plants,

some other colors that work w/that green. maybe pick a seat cushion w/the violet/fuschia and spring green colors. that would be pretty by the window

when it comes time for sofa/furniture, I'd do something like this>: I like the white wall color too, better than that gray

bring in some similar green colors over there so the kitchen cabs don't look 'lonely'.

Lori, I know what you mean about tall husbands. LOL My husband is 6'3". We have a very deep and high back sofa and he still has to prop pillows behind his head.

I had a low MCM sofa that I had to replace after a visitor in my home (7'4") had to drop onto his knees from the sofa and crawl on his hands and knees to another piece of furniture to get into a upright standing position. He was about the 3rd or 4th person who had difficulty with getting up from my sofa, but it was dramatic enough that I could no longer ignore the issue.

My mom was 5'2, my dad 6'4. She never did find furniture that worked for both of them. He had his chair, she had hers.

Lori, it looks just beautiful! The depth of the color of your lower cabinets in Saguaro is wonderful, and turns the space into something that just lives and breathes. It will “live” well with your young children. The whole space feels like a lively and comfortable space for family and guests alike. The touches like rounding the corners of the countertops in the high traffic areas and the built in storage bench are great and will really enhance how your family lives in the kitchen. I love the wall color that you ultimately chose. Can you please share the details?

I’m sorry your “event” destroyed your kitchen and put you under so much pressure to remodel under lousy circumstances, but I think you came through with a beautiful kitchen. As challenging as it was to tie the new kitchen to the existing space without succumbing to the repose gray, I think you managed it beautifully and hope all the stress of decisions and financial bleed out are but a memory now as you love your new kitchen. I’m very happy you have a color you love, and not just a quick neutral placeholder hurriedly chosen to simply match the nearby existing decor. Your kitchen and nook are lovely!
