Dining room design ideas without chandelier

We have just moved in house with large open floor plan with living, kitchen island, dining all a single big space with modern finishes.

there is a ceiling fan in dining area. i am debating if i should replace the ceiling fan with chandelier of anchor the dining room with artwork? style is modern throughout the house. is chandelier a must?

Yes!! A nice chandelier hung much lower than that fan will anchor and help define a dining room every time!! It appears the junction box is not well place for how you have the table set up. That can be dealt with. If you are asking if it's NECESSARY the answer is of course no if you have cans, but it's expected. What a great space to find something super impactful!!

Personally I don't care for a fan directly over a dining table. It's hard to say without a floorplan or some pictures what a chandelier would do for the space. A compromise would be a close to ceiling ornamental fixture that did not hang down below more than about 6-1/2 feet from the floor.

I am assuming there must be some recessed lighting .

You need a light fixture so you can see. So yes, lights are a must. Post some pics please.

You can have just canned lights, but it would be nice to be able to add a chandelier IN ADDITION TO the canned lights. If you only have the option of either one currently, try to be sure there is a can in the center (plus perimeter lights) should you decide to switch that out down the road and convert it to a chandelier.

RE: corners.I have only one corner in my kitchen and it looks something like the photo below. It's OK. I am not thrilled with it. RE: hutch. I have read some use the upper kitchen cabinets for night tables and making other furniture, b/c the upper kitchen cabinets are not as deep.

Sorry about the multiple posts, my phone was acting weird. I wanted to add that I really like the idea of appliance garages, and a built in microwave to clear up some countertop space. Just not sure of where would be the besr place to put them. Here is a picture of our dining room.

Your new house with such magnificent trims and moldings would look great if you got so far as 2 orange crates on either side of the fireplace! There are several recessed led lights above the dining table area so lighting is not an issue at all. its more for the design element

If I had a chandelier over my table, I’d want it centered over the table (or the table centered under the light). If that wasn’t possible, then I’d leave the fan.

Also another query, is the painting too small for the wall and should it be centered on the entire wall or starting from end of the island
