Wow! thank you so much and i apologize for not replying sooner, i had unexpected family illness come up. Anyway, i am full speed ahead eith this room. i llove the idea of stackable barstools - i never would’ve thought of that! the door to the right of the stairs leads to a very unfinished basement. the one next to that is storage, next to that near rhe corner is laundry room. thr last room, by itself leads to the small garage.

That isnt a shelf under the window, its oart od the foundation- i wouldnlove a fun idea of what to do with rhe window wall. .

Dart board, game system, etc... but probably most important to teens -- PRIVACY. A way to shut a door and keep adults from peeking in at them or overhearing what they are talking about with their friends. I"m not sure if there is a way to get privacy in this space -- which may make this an not-so-great-choice for teens regardless of what you add to the room. (I am a mom of 3 kids btw)

For the window wall, I would install a bar shelf and swivel stools all along there over the foundation wall. If there is the possibility of installing electric there it could be a spot for charging devices, as well as snacking. I would mount TV up in that left corner of the drop ceiling (here is just one way to do it) but a corner wall mount could work too. Use the end wall for a couple of sports lockers or put gear in the garage. Then throw in a couple of bean bag chairs. Find an outlet in the laundry or storage room for a beverage fridge.

For a teen hangout space, I would consider moody dark walls. I love this inspiration photo, though I would definitely not go for a white couch. I particularly like the woven blinds to filter the light but give a sense of privacy. If you opt for a sectional, I suggest you go with a very flexible modular style so that it can be reconfigured. Several of the pieces in standinginline’s link fit the bill.

What are their needs: seating, storage, video/games, etc and what feel/colors are preferred. There are lots of ideas on Pinterest (search teenager hangout space).

Room’s size and doorways are a major issue so suggest large beanbags, as they can be moved around based on needed usage at that time. Include a surface for snacks, card games, etc. and a floor lamp (doesn't take a lot of space). Play around with a floor plan that best addresses needs.

If feasible, store hockey stuff in basement (especially for airing) and I’m sure your son/daughter will appreciate the extra space vs a bit of inconvenience. Then place TV on that wall, which will have greater visability. .
