Back from the sale/auction

It was a hot weekend for a sale and auction. I think I lost a lot of water weight.

Here is what I came home with and I only spent $137 on seven plants:

AUCTION PLANTS:

BLOOD OF THE MARTYRS (EMMERICH 2020)

NATURE'S CRYSTAL SEA (STORY 2019)

CLEAN ENERGY (OWEN 2020)

SONIQUE (OWEN 2020)

TABLE AND BAG SALE PLANTS:

QUEEN OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS (DOUGLAS 2020)

HEAVENLY WAY BIG (GOSSARD 2013)

MONEY MAKER (GOSSARD 2015)

Four fans of NO ORDINARY CHILD (EMMERICH 2015) was given to me.

I certainly sold more than than I spent. I wasn't going to bid on the two Owen plants, but they increased so well that they were almost giving them away and it was for the club.....

I got into a bidding war for STRANGER THINGS (a real toothy pink) with a friend of mine. He breed for teeth. I also know that he will get what he wants, so I drove the price up to $80 and he got it for $85. I saw a picture of it at club member's garden who grew it and the color did not appear to be fully saturated so I was not heartbroken. I purchased my top three plants (BOTM, NCS and QOTSK).

The table plants are club plants that were bonus plants that were under a certain value or they might have been a club plant that was slow to increase and by the time it comes back the value has dropped. The plants that I take down are bag plants. Members bring plants to the sale and label the bags with a picture. They are lined out in a large section of the nursery. Once 11:00 hits, there are a few announcements and then the president of the club blows a whistle and it is like the running of the bulls through the streets of Spain. Prior to that, everyone mills around looking at the bags and looking for deals and developing a strategy on how to get the plants they want. I will tell you, there are deals to be had. Someone had FRIED GREEN TOMATOES for $5 on their bag. I paid $10 each for the Gossard plants I picked up and they were both 4 fans. Great deal in my eyes.

Oh, I am envious, I like Blood of the Martyrs! I like Emmerich daylilies, although some tend to be a little short. Heavenly Way Big is one I really likecfrom pictures too. Now I have to go look up those new ones I am not familiar with. I think I only have 1 plant by Owen and impressed by how well it did. Congrats!

It's always better to sell more than you spend. It sounds like you got some good ones. I am looking forward to seeing those flowers next season.

I had to look up the Gossards you came home with, they do well in my gardens. I am looking forward to seeing H Way Big, love the colors on it.

It looks like you got some great deals! You will love Blood of the Martyrs. I've really enjoyed it here and am looking forward to see some seedlings from it bloom next year.

You did well, as you would have easily spent twice that for the top three plants on the market. Will be exciting to see them. Surprised that people let these go for so little. Did you have any for auction, or just on the table?

Looks like you had a good meeting and plant sale. I don't know how you were able to be in the heat we had over the weekend. And it still is hot and humid here. Hopefully the weather breaks by Thursday. 10 minutes outside and I'm drippng with sweat.

That is hilarious! it paints a picture of the way big box stores once held their Black Friday sales after Thanksgiving-keeping doors locked until 12a.m. and then opening to the masses!! I never risked life in that scenario but I might run for lilies!!!’
