I find Womb Chairs and Eames Lounge Chairs, with their ottomans, very comfortable. They are expensive but their are decent knock-offs. One is not cushiony but well shaped, the other is cushiony. He would need to try them out.

I know what you are going through!!!! My husband is tall and hates sitting on a couch. He also hates sitting on my favorite chair and ottoman because the back isn't high enough. He has a Lazy Boy in his office and that is his go-to chair. For our summer cabin, which has a fairly small living room, we have had a sofa plus two swivel rockers. He hates both. So, just yesterday, we purchased two small scale high leg recliners to replace the swivel rockers. He agreed that while they aren't as comfy for him as his Lazy Boy, they are much better than a sofa or our current swivel rockers. For our family room at home, we have looked at some Barcalounger recliners. They make several high leg recliners that aren't overstuffed and look far nicer than the average recliner. Someone else mentioned an Eames Chair and ottoman. We had a nice knockoff one for years and it was well loved. My daughter still has it and she continues to love it.

I would second Stressless. You really do need the proper proportions for a recliner to feel good so having 3 size options for each chair makes it more likely to get it right.

Unless you scoop up a chair to recover in something that suits your style, his comfort, and the beach home? It will take a long time to get a chair. In any fabric, and in any style. Meaning you will have it for next summer.

Probably about 10 or 15 years ago when we were on vacation, the hotel room had one of those cheaper versions of a stressless chair. DH said it was super comfy. I was surprised because althought it's not really my taste, I found it much more attractive ( or less offensive?) than ye ole stuffed recliner.. (we do have a recliner in the basement, DH's domain or man cave).

You do have to sit in them to see because some are heavenly and some are pretty stiff and not comfy at all.

I have actually been looking again because I think I might consider having 2 in our living room. We have one, and even I like to sit in it when I read.

They are mostly super pricey but we have the way less $ one and that is what I woudl get again.

It's the combo of the chair and ottoman which is great.

DH deserves a comfy place to relax and watch TV in. And doze off in. It’s his house too, and half his money.

I detest recliners. But when we bought a new house and were choosing new furniture for our TV room, I told him to buy what was comfortable for him: he tried probably 25 chairs and chose a very large plush recliner. See paragraph #2. *sigh*

Try Flexsteel. I have a recliner from them and was able to send my own fabric.

I have a leather chesterfield recliner — I don’t remember the brand — maybe Ethan Allen or similar — my absolute favorite chair and it reads as a classic and traditional chair to me and not “recliner” and so so comfy. Probably not beachy however. Look on Chairish, Facebook marketplace, auctions if you want something now — sometimes one can find amazing deals or unique finds. I pretty much only look on chairish at the moment because of all the delays (FB marketplace isn’t that great in my area).

We bought a leather recliiner from Room and Board when I had my knee replaced a couple of years ago. It is ridiculusly comfortable, but I’m not sure we’’ll fiind a place for it in our new house. It’s a reasonably attractive recliner, but still a recliner.

The family recently bought my husband a Stressless recliner for Father's Day. He swore by his old reliable Lazy Boy recliner and was certain nothing could take its place. End of story: he LOVES the Stressless!!!
