Mature size will vary with location. The trees will stay at the smaller end of the scale in colder, harsher climate zones and lean to the larger end of the scale in milder climates. And remember that plant tags or "book" statements of mature sizes are only guidelines. The trees will continue to grow as long as they live.

As an example, a local botanical garden has a 50 y.o. Shishigashira (Lion's Head maple) that is easily 40' tall........10-20' is the commonly quoted size. 10-15' is typical for Fire Glow but 20-25' would not surprise me at all.

We have a weeping purple maple red dragon that is around 5 feet tall and 7 feet wide. It’s been in the ground for 9 years.

You are right - I over estimated it as it is 4 feet off the ground. Will measure it in the morning.

I also have a red dragon... the seller said he has a very large one too.. 7 or 8 feet wide... I wonder if many of us are guilty of over-estimating their size.

My RD is in it's 2nd season... doing well but still pretty small and scrawny.. they take at least 4 or 5 years up here before they start to look good.

Trees grow how they grow when left to their own devices, but the grower who prunes judiciously can have a significant impact on the size and ramification of almost any tree.
