Right off the bat: you need to center the rug.

Replace the black corner console with a white flat-to-wall console.

Do something like this, by moving the art closer to the mantel/mirror.

Pull the chair/ottoman onto the rug.

the reason we say no mirror is because, just like the case here we are reflecting a ceiling fan. now im not against mirrors over fp, and if you like the mirror maybe try layering a print or pictures with it.

Since you cant move the tv I would consider a new tv stand that is a bit less bulky also add an end table to the chair side to balance the weight a bit.

Look into tv stands that are made for corners.

Flipping the TV and sitting area to opposite sides of the fireplace would work for me. The cost of moving connections is not a deal breaker, but it would entail switching to a different console than the corner one you now have. If you hang your mirror 5" above the mantel it may not reflect the fan as much. Layering is the key to the mantel, especially with a mirror. Try to keep the vignette on the mantel within the footprint (width) of the firebox opening for best balance.

Thank you for all of your helpful suggestions! I am definitely going to implement most of them. I’ll search to replace our black corner TV console and start to search for a large round mirror-etc. Part 2 living room issue is the sectional ( not in photo) I’ll post for advice on this next!

I would not do large round, I love the classic shape you have now, I would look for something like that only a bit larger, it has character.

I love her current mirror, too - and in fact, I think I said that it is a “perfect style” for her space...

And if she can get a mirror in that style large enough, scale-wise, to make the impact - and one that will also fit in the area, both physically and proportionately - that would be great. I think the arch would have to be wider - more of a horizontal spread on the mirror.

This mirror shown below is nice + whimsical with the songbird details, but this is not one I’m necessarily recommending for this; I just pulled it up to do the visual.

The mirror is a bit larger than her current one - but the vertical extension is not filling out the area - and adding a bit of mass just vertically does not do it, imo. I think this also just adds too much vertical.

The mirror would have to be wider - and with this style and shape of mirror, the size/scale needed to make the impact may not physically and/or proportionately fit well in her space. But I absolutely love the style on her mirror - and it would definitely be my first choice if she can make it work.

Otherwise, I would go with the round.

Look at mirrors of your type in a wider shape. Check the various dimensions and tape them out on your wall with painters’ tape to get a better sense of what may possibly work in your space. I really do love this style.

My sectional was just temporary- from our former basement- it’s too large for the room. I think a smaller one with left facing chaise would work… BUT I’ve looked at many sectionals- torn between 109-110 ( leaves room for end tables) or around 118-120” which may provide more seating- we lounge on both ends of the large sectional we have, but I’m not fond of the supersize of it! It allows for very little layering and kind of cuts off our eating nook. Also back and forth on performance fabrics- beige? Seems bland- lighter warm gray? Hope the pics help shed some light on this living room dilemma! Thank y’all in advance!

What a great house! nice work! I like the sofa, I get that it is big but it is nice and cozy. Maybe the problem is not the sofa, but the scale of the things around it. The brown chair, lamp and art seem very small now. I think I would take that chair out as you have a lot of seating near by. Pull the sofa forward a little more. maybe try a bookcase or console in place of that chair. Im wondering if you could wall mount the tv (low) and have it on a pull out swivel, than have consoles on each side. to give kind of a built in feel?

Any suggestions for the upholstery color of couch ? My walls are a warm off white by Sherwin Williams called Stucco.

I think you are swimming in a sea of beige walls and furniture already, I kinda like the navy blue. BUT, I think you should wait on the sofa until you get the FP wall squared away, it will probably give you a little more direction.

I would add a large round mirror and layer a small framed piece of art next to it with a set of vases or candlesticks…get a large higher back comfy chair with ottoman for the corner upholstered in a fabric but bring it into the room a bit more and a bit closer to the fireplace with a small end table and lamp.

And change all furniture out to anything you love..what colors are you hoping to use or are you wanting neutrals..textures added? this is just and idea of placement not colors.

I would start off with a nice performance neutral and add textures and touches of your fav colors in pillows and wall art.
