something different from your chosen backsplash would be interesting for the bar area.

Dark and rich to compliment the wooden countertop.

Can you pull the Rich Dark Tones from the granite?

Think Burgundy, Blood Red and a texture (it won't be a greasey area, so cleaning isn't an issue)

... Remember you'll have some bar accessories on the countertop, so it won't be as exposed as you see it now.

Penny Tile is not very upscale, think outside the box.

my first inclination is to use the same tile (in the same format) that you used in the main part of the kitchen. It's actually all one room. Another option would be a mirrored tile in the same size as you have used in the main part of the kitchen to provide a little continuity. There are a lot of great options and price points. It will also brighten the space.

Thank you for your comments. The kitchen is bare right now but I plan on adding accessories that are wooden and that are earth tones. I especially like sage green.
I had considered the pictured tile for the bar but think it might be too busy. (I would pop out the blue tiles!).
I do have possible pictures for the bar space as well.

Don't do a tile backsplash there...do something else, like a mirror.

That mosaic tile is too busy and will fight with your granite. Keep to the “KISS” method, go with the same beige tile all around and then accessorize.

Cool kitchen. You have a lot going on already, so I say absolutely not to the mosaic tile. I don’t like beige either. How about white to match your cabinetry?

You have used the beige and it’s great with everything else….don’t go chopping it up now!

as an example, if you like the glass tile, what about this Driftwood color from Horizons

It comes in a regular subway tile size, a little longer shown here on the right.

over on the bar area you could do the same tile, if you like, in the smaller shape,,,,or, do the longer tile but do a herringbone layout over the wood top.

Or, do a penny round tile like the one on the left side of the pic.

(diff colors shown here, but penny rounds can look very pretty in the right case. )

I think these warm brown really highlight the granite, plus, gives you some contrast from all of the beige, neutral tones

the copper would look smashing against the granite and the butcher block. I'd go w/this is you use a really neutral tile elsewhere.

If you want more netural colors, these offer a little more interest.

We still need the uplights over the bar/pantry area, the ovens installed, the backsplashes installed and a few little details.
I would like to use the 3x9 tile pictured in the main part of the kitchen but don't know what to do at the bar (the wooden countertop area).

Thanks again for the ideas. No backsplash is up yet. The back wall has been painted. If you look closely, the tile is a buttery sand color with a micro crackle, not really beige.

I LOVE crackle tile but agree it shouldn't be so beige tone. I'd go witha light cream or warm off-white color

We did that Ade. Tile with a very similar granite and off-white cabinets. It’s definitely Not too beige.

If you go w/the same tile over the bar area, you could always do it in a diff layout. this or a herringbone, or a vertical stack, etc.

Those are the tiles I am looking at and your suggestion of using the decorative 4x4 tiles is a possibility.

FYI our cabinets are a soft off white but the photos don't really show that.

Remember that the gloss tiles are very shiny……there’s another poster recently who used a gloss tile and doesn’t like it now that it’s installed because it’s too shiny!

Your countertop is a gorgeous stone. A copper color on the backsplash would be so striking. I also like the various white tiles that are interesting (the Chloe in particular). The white tiles will provide a better background for your stone, or an interesting deeper color. Keep the same idea but slightly different in the bar area (just changing the layout of the tiles, as Beth showed you) or the same color in another shape. It makes the bar interesting but part of the whole.
