Kitchen Light Switch Placement?

last modified: 4 years ago

I’m not interested in making expensive changes to our kitchen and it won’t help to hear that I should have done things differently.

Should we install a kitchen light switch next to the pantry AND on the opposite side of the same wall?

You enter the home in a split foyer. Once upstairs, to your right is the kitchen. There is a wall between the kitchen and entrance/split foyer.

At the top of the stairs we planned to have light switches for the entryway/porch/living room/dining room. We had also discussed having kitchen light switches next to the pantry (on the other side of entryway wall, almost identical location)… Now i’m rethinking if that’s really needed, because you can just reach around the corner to turn on/off kitchen lights.

One other note - there is no cabinet in the corner next to the pantry (it’s a coat closet in the entryway) and so it’s just a cabinet panel. This means, we can also slide the pantry down to give more space between the pantry and window.

THE FOLLOWING DESIGN IS NOT CURRENT; HOWEVER THIS PROVIDES THE LAYOUT.
