wow - wedding reception

This image is from a NY Times "Vows" column. I keep looking at it, trying to convince myself it is not an oil painting!

    Dramatic, for sure.

Beautiful!! It does look like an oil painting!!

    Wow!

Wow is right. Did they identify the venue?

That looks something like the interior of the event space at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh. We were at a wedding there last fall, and it was indeed very dramatic.

Beautiful and dramatic -the scene itself is a bit mysterious. How are they managing to dance without any guests there? A few years ago, I heard about a wedding reception where they had hired a painter to create a large (24x36?) painting of the event. I filed it away and thought, what a great gift that would make!

Bestyears, the guests are all up above on the balcony.

ETA: here's my photo of the space, and it looks the same.

Stunning! It does look like an oil painting. The photographer on the dance floor gives it away though. We need him photoshopped out for the final photo. Thanks for sharing mtn.

Wow. How do women find men willing to go along with something like this? They do look like professional, performers, though. Quite the scene, although I wish the videographer were not in the picture.

It's lovely. I think I see some editing to mimic light, especially on the guest's faces. Very cool technique.

Interesting start to the reception. It seems the cocktail hour was held above on the mezzanine which allowed the guests to witness the photo taking that is usually going on while guests wait. Was that the 'first dance' or a rehearsal for photography's sake????

Here's what the table bouquet looks like the morning after!!!

I recently attended a wedding at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh. This is the music hall. The guests entered at the upper level for the cocktail hour. The bride and groom did their first dance while we were upstairs and we all could watch from above. It was uniquely magical. Guests were then instructed to move downstairs for dinner and dancing.

Sooo the museum has a canned schedule of events.....takes the fairy tale quality right out of it!!

Doesn't take the fairy tale quality out of it for me...rather it's exciting to think how many fabulous weddings are enjoyed there.

    a canned schedule of events.

Isn't every wedding that? If you insist on putting such an oddly sour spin on someone's special day.

Stunning venue. My first thought was this would make a great puzzle. The photo is magical, but the editing feels so heavy. I have to wonder if you received hundreds of wedding photos edited to this extent, and they look "unreal," does that make you feel like you don't have "real" photo memories of the event?

Oh no, you now have puzzle brain Allison!

The photos are excellent; they aren't all like this. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/19/style/andrew-zbihley-olivia-pura-wedding.html?searchResultPosition=6

Interesting piece. Lots of venues know their most scenic shots and guests take advantage of them.

The photo of guests around the huge cookie table, looking very human, brings the fairy tale back down to earth.

Although it's been many years I've attended events at both sites - St. Paul's and the Carniegie museums. My campus was in the same neighborhood. The cookie table though is a common Pittsburgh tradition especially among Italian families in the area. We didn't have one at our Pittsburgh wedding but when my nephew married a few years ago my SIL offered to arrange the cookie table and I volunteered to bake Snickerdoodles which was my brothers favorite. Still I was amazed at the amount of cookies. We were all taking bags home after the reception.

Stunning! What a wonderful, creative capture.

May the couple’s marriage be as beautiful as their first dance.

I’ve never heard of a cookie table, what a delightful tradition. Pittsburgh has always been one of my favorite cities in the U.S. and now I have another reason to like it 🙃

Gorgeous and magical. Thank you for sharing, Mtn!

Cookie table? I could never at my wedding...I'd be at the cookie table the whole time!!

    :)

What a lovely photograph….I love weddings!

It's especially nice that the cookies were made by friends and family.

I'm with Annie though. I'd be all like "first dance? cut the cake? Nahh, y'all go on ahead I'm pullin' a seat up to this cookie table."

Her silver crocs! Too cute. Not as fond of his sneakers and tux shorts :)

Also, the construction of her formal dress is fantastic.

At most weddings I've been to with a cookie or viennese (dessert) table, it gets rolled out towards the end of the night because they are such a delightful distraction.

Speaking of dresses, i love this one, also from NYT Vows.

Unfortunately I hit a pay wall. I love wedding pictures.

A gorgeous wedding location. Love the venue’s tradition of the cocktail party upstairs with the bride and groom dancing below.

The idea of a cookie table has appealed to the cookie monster in me since I first learned about them. Had hoped my daughter would want to go that route, but she preferred a more varied dessert table.

beautiful photo and wedding. The photographer did an outstanding job capturing that moment!

Cookie tables are common to me and I've known my own mother to have made thousands of them just for the occasion.

Stunning is the perfect word to describe that venue. I love it!

The Carnegie Museum ( the music hall is attached) core exhibit is the dinosaur hall featuring real dino fossils. A must for every child.

Outside the museum, is the most loved Diplodocus, better know as Dippy. Dippy’s scarves change acccording to what’s going on in the area. Next up, he will have a Steeler scarf! I offered to construct a wedding veil for my friend’s son’s nuptials, but would have needed a bucket lift to reach Dippy’s head 😀

My DS gets married in 2 weeks and I will try to snap a picture of the cookie table before it gets devoured.

i catered a wedding with a cookie table. It took a very long time to get all those cookies out of the boxes and onto serving trays. just about then it was time to start packing up the leftovers. Lots of Italian aunts = too many cookies.:)

There is a Facebook page devoted to wedding cookie tables.
