I think your “poor substitute” slabs are stunning and will be fabulous with your kitchen cabinet color. With touches of black, it will look great. Beautiful color in the cabinets.

I really like the Florida Wave Quartzite. I had looked at using it for my Superior Cabinets in Dorian Gray, but they only had one slab near me. I think it would look really beautiful with your cabinets!

Did you actully tag the slabs at HD since usually they do not have slabs for clients to choose from. Very nice looking material. HD has many disaster issues with counters not being what was chosen templating issues . IMO this is expensive material and I would want some guarantees from HD so make sure the slabs you chose are the slbs you get and that is done by taking pics of the slabs and having you name put on the slabs along with the pictures . When the teplating is done make sure you get the slabs you chose in the right place . I have to say I would not deal with HD for this type of job.

You need to test these slabs in person to see if they're genuine quartzite and for porosity. This site is replete with horror stories of those who failed to do so.

And you need to calculate and approve the layout cuts you'll get from each slab. No cuts before approval. Same with any seams and seam fill material color. Do a final approval at the fabricators shop before you allow the counters to be delivered and installed. Communication with your fabricator is essential. This could save you from disappointments. We see it all the time.

@dan1888 thanks for the advice. Can you clarify what you mean by calculating and approving cuts? When they get the stone & plan to do the cuts, I should visit and show them exactly where i want them to cut- in person?

And calculations- do you mean look at their measurements and compare to the measurement of the slab at the fabricators after its cut?

And I thought I replied to the other comments, but I dont see it. TY for the advise and I will be careful with HD. This is from a slab yard they are using (MSI) for this stone and I know what fabricator they are using too. I did reserve them from there and have the paperwork, as well as pictures of the slabs.

I know someone who had a good experience with another HD and saw results myself. I think it might depend on who they use for their fabricator and I assume that can vary according to location. I have pictures and very detailed, but clear instructions. I will probably visit the slab yard one more time and take something to do a scratch test, but it looks legit. I did alot of research and can often get a sense of what might be marble just from the side and crystal formations and stone names. I have personally seen marble being advertised as quartzite etc and I think it is deceptive. Thats usually with fantasy brown etc. ”hard” marble. I havent had an experience where anyone has lied when I ask them if it is a true quartzite vs marble thankfully. This slab yard was up front in the beginning and labeled accordingly and whatever slabs had samples, did test out as expected and advertised.

Dippity, would love to see some pics of your finished kitchen. Did you end up doing Florida Wave and using HomeDepot? How did it all go?

@T Jarmuth I love the cabinets. I had a really good experience with the KD who had previous experience working elsewhere and seemed seasoned. Some of the doors came a teeny bit dinged and they sent me replacements which honestly, once they were up I never used them, but I will keep them as extras just in case. I love the drawers and recommend having many. makes access easy for young and old.

How has your experience with the Montreal white been. We are really loving that quartzite as well but have been reading mixed reviews with people having issues of etching, water spots and basically the stone performing more like a marble than a quartzite.
