No. You could make the foyer longer—west to east on your plan—by extending the north wall west to where the south wall ends and put your symmetrical arch there. It would mean a short wall blocking the site line through the kitchen hall to the north. But why? What are you really gaining?

I have the same question - what is the goal? I see you are also playing with the FP location, which would be good because it looks like a Master door is too close to it and your seating is off. You also have a constricted Office entry, an isolated MW far away from counter space and a large open area in front of the ref. Also some ceiling soffits. There may be a way to address all things together and make an improvement.

IMO a huge foyer is a waste of space and the question really cannot be answered without seeing the exterior of this house . Do you often have parties where 20 people arrive together and you need a grand hall ?

Thank you for your comments. The goal is to widen the foyer a little and make the closet a bit smaller. I have moved the microwave to the other side of the stove (left side)
Fireplace will be centered on the wall with some cabinets on either side. What would you suggest 3onthetree?

I'm not sure if a nearly 11' wide Foyer is too small, and it has a 7' wide opening to a Great Room that is not a whole lot wider. But it is hard to understand how this Foyer sits in the entire house to get a handle on proportions and flow. There seems to be some opportunities with the hidden safe closet and hidden Pantry to manipulate the entirety a bit if needed.

Just a note about the arch - I know many people are just dead set on having one somewhere, it aligns with some preconceived notion about a grand entry into a space - however, it doesn't look like there is anything else in your house that has that same design language. An arch wants to force a symmetry, and that symmetry seems to be causing a little hampering in widening this Foyer.

I hear you. Im pretty new to all this. Problem is we are in the framing stage now. Are you are suggesting to do away with the arch opening? The great room is a two story open to the loft area. Is there a picture of what you are suggesting? Thank you again for your input.

3onthetree so if we do away with the arch opening and widen the foyer to be just a large opening that will in turn make the front door not centered in the wall. From exterior it will be. Do you see a problem with that?

You answered what you want to do, not why. What is the purpose for widening the foyer. What do you gain by widening the foyer?

If you move the wall for the master closet you now have the hanging clothes encroaching on the window space. Are you planning on moving the window or not hanging clothes/adding cabinets on that wall?

I have two really large master closets (probably shouldn’t have waiting until framing started to make changes) 🥴 thought if we made one smaller it would benefit the foyer. I didn’t think about the hanging clothes. It’s my husbands closet so I guess he could hang on the other side and use that space for his folded clothes.
Do you think it’s a bad idea? Also, if we move forward do you think an off centered interior front door is okay?

Decided to do away with the arch opening. Not sure why that was even arched. I don’t remember talking to the architect about that. 🤔 going to square it off and widen it. Still thinking of taking some of that closet. But on the fence….

Why would yu take room from a closet from an entranceway that no one is using as a room and hanging out in?

Lisa Dipiro, I just wanted the foyer slightly larger and having another master closet thought it would be okay to take some space from it.

Folded clothes or hanging clothes would still be in front of the window.

If there is no really good reason to make the foyer bigger than it is I would not change it and ruin the functionality of the closet.

I am not going to disagree with you that you should have thought about these things long before construction started. I would be less concerned with changing the size of the foyer for no real reason and be doing a mental walkthrough of your daily routines and how this home will function for you and your family.

No, I would say it's plenty large enough. I'd be inclined to shrink it.
