Those panels are really nice, sleek and modern but I'm sure they will cover nicely with your vines. And those limelights...oh my! They are beautiful. Nice choice.

I also like those panels and the clematis you have chosen. The Limelights will give you some privacy as well, and I think that this is a nice improvement to your yard.

I respectfully suggest that you might want to reconsider the wisteria which typically can be quite a thug, seeding around both in and out of your garden and and sending out underground runners. It will likely overwhelm the clematis and damage the trellis because it can get large and woody. I have seen it 40 feet up in trees.

I agree with Babs. The wisteria will EAT that trellis!! It needs a much sturdier support system than that can provide. I've see it rip out 4'x4's, squash 1" diameter metal pipes and take down an entire deck. Aside from its very aggressive growth habit, folks seriously underestimate how powerful the torsion this vine produces.

Thank you for the comments. I did research the Wisteria / Clematis combo and from what I learned, they paired well together.

The lawn is getting destroyed by the squirrels, it's just a matter of time before it is a mess.

I am thinking of getting rid of the lawn and doing an English garden theme. Any suggestions?

Some questions for you to think about if you are considering removing a large chunk of lawn:

-How do you want to use this space where the lawn currently is? Do you need sitting areas or a spot for kids or pets to run around? Or other specific needs?

-Would you be doing your own maintence? What kind of time do you have for weeding, deadheading, mulching, etc.? Lawn is typically the easiest and least time consuming to maintain. If you haven’t done a lot of perennial gardening, plan out the whole area after a lot of research, especially in real gardens such as botanic gardens. A lot of what is on the internet does’t gel with real life experience. Also consider mixed beds with both shubs and perennials so that there will be winter interest, both with and without snow. Conider adding just one or two beds a year so it isn’t overwhelming.

-How will you prevent the squirrels from digging up your perennial gardens? Will that bother you more than the damage to your lawn?

-Have you considered treating the lawn with a spray that is a mix of hot pepper flakes, a tiny amount of vegetable oil, and warm water, whizzed in the blender and then allowed to sit for a bit and then filtered? Often hot pepper will make the squirrels choose other places.

Wisteria...oh my! I have been pulling out, digging out, round-uping out my wisteria for the past 6 years...it is not to be trifled with. At this point, I would only recommend planting it in a circle of soil surrounded by a paved parking lot. It plays to win -- and will choke out anything that it is within 20' or so...

Wisteria is a thug and does not play nicely with Clematis! Your trellises are gorgeous though.
