since i grew mostly hybrid Ts .. and deadheaded them religiously for further bloom.. i didnt know not all roses produced hips.. though i was well aware that certain ones are used for culinary purposes ...

soooo.. if not all rose seed holders are not hips.. what is the botanical word for the seed holder otherwise ????

Of course they all produce hips, but I assume OP is looking for decorative hips. These are usually species and cultivars thereof. Some are spectacular. Rosa moyesii ’Geranium’ is lovely, but not exactly compact.
