Pieter, I think both flowers are beautiful and agree a fragrant purple or lavender flowers would be lovely. I think you see some of my posts and know I love hosta flowers. I leave on the petiole until all of them are spent before removing them. Nothing gives me more pleasure than seeing pollinators go into them. So I this cross works out! ☺️

That is a good goal pieter. fragrants are hard to breed. i hope you enjoy a challenge. if they set pods often times only a few seeds are viable. then you have to wait for blooms. I have found fragrants to non fragrants result in diluted scent. so i am crossing those back to other fragrants to put more scent back into it. using tetraploids greatly improves the fertility.

there is much room in the hosta universe for more fragrants. and better fragrants. so will be interested and happy to see your results. we need more folks like you.

i have even had the audacity to try for some fragrant blushers. one can dream :)

Bummer pieter. fragrant fertility is a problem. was heat a factor? i see it was pretty hot up your way.

i have hit them hard this year. even if i have a 100 pods that still might not translate to many seeds. and then wait several years to test fragrance. The tets are producing the most pods.

I am hoping my secret weapon, fragrant bouquet tet is the key to unlock fertility.

Its kind of odd looking with its thick leaves and scapes.

Doug, what's the story behind the FB tet, its flowers certainly show more colour than what I'm used to seeing from that family...

Heat hasn't really been a problem as close to the ocean as I am, certainly there's not been a problem with decent pod development on FB and Guac, Invincible as well as Sugar and Spice.

Pieter, it was a lucky cross of fb x heartache. so technically a seedling. no name so i geralize on origin, i got a mix of dips and one tet. it has some lavender in the flower. decent fragrance. i have been crossing it with royal crest.

fat pods are usually a sign of tet. royal crest pods.

it could be that the anthocyanin color is stronger in cooler climates.

Summer fragrance, scentous and tea at bettys seems to have some color as well.

i also put some fragrant pollen on beilsiens mojito crosses.

maybe bring some fragrance back into it.

first time this invincible seedling has ever had a pod. tet pollen.

Also some glossy ruffles pollen for variation of leaf shape.
