New dress thread

Smhinnb recommended a new site to me site in Canada. For those who are unfamiliar, have a oeak.

There seems to be different choices than from US sites.

Here are a few I am looking at.

Never say never. While I didn't want large floral, this might be okay. It's one if there best sellers.

Another floral, but I'm thinking I will have trouble in the chest area, so might not order.

Fit and flare. Again might make me top heavy.

All opinions welcome! Thanks for following.

Eld, i was responding to Salon's point, and "A bit more special than the average guest."

Have you asked your daughter for ideas? Maybe something she sees in her travels? Goa will surely have a lot that is lightweight and comfy!

She might be heading there, but before the wedding. ( They have tentative plans of spreading the ashes of fiance’s dad who passed last August)

Right now they are in Ibiza and heading to Italy at the end of the week.

If anything, maybe some could be made for me in her factory in India.

When I ask her is’s “you can wear what you want!”

Then I show her something, “ no, I don't like that.”

I wasn't sure if she was in home decor textile or fashion textiles, but all the better! How cool is that? You have to send her an SOS; how nice if she designed/made it for you?

Eld, it wouldn’t have to be a stark black. I would probably do a charcoal or dark gray of sone sort. That’s me. I do feel for you though.

Just Terri, I hope you are right. But in traditional weddings, the main attractions usually coordinate colors with each each other.

A good friend chose her dress after the MOB set the stage with a navy long sequenced gown.

That reminds me, do you know what the MOG will wear or any other female members of the wedding party?

My fave is the first dress Eld posted from the Canadian site with the petal tiers. It’s lovely, did you try it?

Okay, totally different thought, but why not upscale beachy? This site has really cute stuff (some of which you may want for your time on the trip?)

Good thought Mtn. In my case, MOG picked first. I asked DD to send me a pic. I wasn't interested in matching but did want us to look like we were going to the same event in the pictures. The dress codes for beach weddings and garden weddings are pretty vague.

Mtn, I have seen Cabana, but the dresses are not in petite. I do like them. I have tried Lily Pulizer and Tommy Bagama.

I'm not too concerned with my other clothing. I have enough shorts, tops, sun dresses for the ten days.

KSWL as it turns out the first dress will be too long on me. They posted length from shoulder to hem.

They do have lovely things on that site. My concern is that when. I did something in my cart, it does not say petite even though on the top of the page does.

I can't call the 877 number on my phone. I will have to figure out why.

I haven't talked to MOG about her choice yet.

    Cant you hem certain styles?

    Maybe because they are Canadian?

FWIW, when it comes to dresses, I think if you have a large bust, it's good to balance that with some fullness at the hips. Also, for petites, long dresses tend to look awkward - not to mention being hot, and dragging in the sand at a beach wedding.

Yeah, I’d probably get it all wrong. This dress has my name all over it. Except, I would have it hemmed knee length. But, but…it’s on Sale lol.

Carol, yes that is why fit and fare works best for me. I can do roomy shift style too.

I know this is longer than you wanted, but I think it would have that breezy feel you want for the beach, in a blush color, in 4P and 6P with a nice v-neck (or maybe it's a u-neck).

This is made to order in a variety of color(S) including pink(s). I do not trust international clothing but she is based in San Fran and has a lot of very good reviews.

    Here's a customer wearing it

Reminds me a bit of the blue one you look so good in. Id order one like this, and then when it comes see how it fits and what you'd change to make it perfect. Then I would find a really nice fabric and just the right pinks, and have her make it COM.

ANother style from same vendor https://www.etsy.com/shop/heartmycloset?section_id=25933616custom made in any color

Back to the 2 dresses on Poshmark. If the gold appeals to you, make an offer. If it has been listed for a long time, the Seller is probably open to even low offers.

    eld6161 thanked bbstx

Bbstx, I can't find what you are talking about.

@eld6161, Next to ”Buy Now,” should be the word ”Offer.” Below is a screenshot of the dress on my phone. If you are on an iPad, it will be close to the upper right corner, but still next to the words ”Buy Now.” If you are on the Poshmark website instead of the app, there will be a box next to Buy Now, that reads ”Make an Offer.”

I was suggesting that if you like the dress but think the price is too high to take a chance on a non-returnable item, then make an offer for a price that you are comfortable with.

Once you click on ”Offer,” you go to the next page where you can choose a pre-set offer amount or you can offer what it is worth to you. We can see that it has been listed for nearly 4 months, at a minimum. So the Seller may be more amenable to a low offer.

    Did I answer your question?

Of course, none of this makes a difference if you don’t like the dress.

Dillards sent me a sale email -- I cannot buy dresses off the rack, so I thought of this thread and looked at petites. This looks similar to some of the things you've looked at. The color is brighter than you may want, but the sizes are available and at the price, it could be a backup and candidate for a dinner, shower or other event. One thing about these prices -- usually come with no returns, so best if you know the maker and can use it generally if not just for the wedding.

I like the idea of this one, but don't know about the color.

This one is both bright and a print, but it looks happy and festive.

Now I'm looking at dresses too 😄

    Some things @ Macy's:

    https://www.macys.com/shop/product/r-m-richards-petite-floral-print-chiffon-gown?ID=12038789&CategoryID=5449

It's long, but I really like the style of this and the pink one below, and a pretty wrap/shawl could go with nicely, IMO. Could be shortened, I think.

Not crazy about the print on this, but I do like the style - it looks very flattering.

Perhaps not a popular opinion, but maybe you should wait until winter when the new lines will be out and you

    may have more optionns.

Bbstx, thanks but I don't want a metallic.

Carol, I have seen those, I can't wear halters. Looks terrible on me.

Lascatz, I tried the fuchia, The zipper was poor quality and I really don't feel good a that color.

Jojo, I am thinking the same thing.

    I appreciate everyone's help.

Everything is starting to look the same. I wish I liked sewing. I would incorporate some of the nifty details of mad men style but instead of a wiggle skirt or swing skirt part I'd do a very slight flare. Fashion is getting boring. It's like one brain is doing all the designing.

See the detail on the top of this dress. It's on Heartmycloset. You can do custom orders there but by the time I got done it would be a completely different dress. The sleeves would go to sleeveless and the bottom half would do a slight flare. The length would change to at knee or just slightly above. However, I'm yearning for just a bit of the detail like this dress has on the top half.

Eld I live in Canada and have purchased many dresses at Laura. It is one of my favourite stores for dresses, along with The Bay. My experience is that any dress identified as Petite in the listing will be in Petite sizing even if it does not say that anywhere in the cart. I am happy to help with questions or contacting customer service etc.

    Jterri,

I already inked to https://www.etsy.com/shop/heartmycloset?section_id=25933616 above.

They have several fit and flare styles, They are made to order based on your msmts. You can choose colors, and they even make things COM. On top of that, you can change elements (eg from short sleeve to sleeveless).

Certainly seems like an option to me, esp given how smashing Eld looked in the simple navy fit and flare.

I thought that one dress was more of a coral -- I knew fuschia wasn't something you wanted. I told my son I'd return a pair of shoes for him at Macy's and shoes aren't returned where other returns are handled -- they have to go to the shoe dept. Which means walking through all the party, cocktail and formal dresses. I was looking both coming and going. LOL .I noticed two rack of petites and at least 10 times that many that were not. Not a single tall dress in the store, but that's another problem.

Dresses that are out right now are homecoming and holiday and the clearance leftovers of spring and summer. In 2-3 months, the holiday supply will be getting thin and they will start moving out spring collections by early January. You still have time -- to shop or have something made. Have any friend in Australia or New Zealand?

Here ya go…I designed you a dress haha.

I took bits of ideas from my last post. A little classic Jackie O and a pinch of retro to accomodate a larger bust.

EDITED to add, Annie seems to be the one who comes up with good patterns and fabric idea's. Maybe there is a pattern close to this? This would be a fun project for you and your daughter.

I am not familiar with this brand, but this style looks like it would be beautiful on the beach and the color is quite pretty. Comes in petite.

Looks like ASOS has some breezy petite dresses as well. This style has two different pink-ish colors. The "blush" one looks pretty pale, but they also have a "dark pink" that's fairly muted but more saturated.

I still think this Alex Evenings petite dress in either short or long length would look lovely on you. Unfortunately the short length doesn't seem to have blush available in a petite size. The pale blue is available in 6P.

The long version comes in blush in 4P and 6P.

Eld, I have invested some time in the quest. I came across a dress on David's Bridal which I think could really work. I thought maybe someone had posted it so I just went back to the old thread, and Annie and prickly had posted it in the gown form.

David's Bridal has it as a cocktail dress. Of course, it does come in petite but your size is sold out. I thought it's worth looking at both the gown ones ( for sizing ) and the shorter one maybe it could be found.

It's also available on A site. which has free returns.
