Hello is a Trane Heat Pump 4TWX8048A1000EB and a Trane Air Handler TEM8AOC48V41D Compatible and if not, what would be the best Trane Air Handler Thanks

    I did a quick on the AHRI directory. The best match I found was:

    AHRI Certified Reference No. 10153796 (you may need to enter the reference number)


    Good ratings: SEER 17.5 EER 13 HPSF 9.6. Cooling 48,000 BTU, heating 47,000 BTU.

    Below is the certificate.

    Mike after the air handler # it has a +TDR WHAT IS THAT Thermostat ?

    TDR means Time Delay Relay. I think it is a built in delay to allow to run after the thermostat is no longer calling for heating or cooling. I probably had some influence on the effciency ratings but i am not sure.

    I don't understand how a certificate can be deemed confidential if it is readily available on a public web site. Does this mean HVAC installers cannot store or send the AHRI certificate of the equipment they install to their customer?

    In my opinion the certificate process is a sham.


    Yes makes complete sense to me when you base everything on a number as to what you are putting together without any other variables included.


    Sham, con game, scam are all words that come to mind.


    Then the manufacturer's include little disclaimers in their warranty literature about utility costs and so forth, if you are so unfortunate that your electric bill goes up instead of down. See this is the rig-a-ma-role casserole. (rig-a-ma-role probably an adjective used here LOL)


    The salesman sold you the unit. 2 or 3 different parts that make up a AHRI number that is a secret you can not share. Maybe they performed a heat load calc which is another set of numbers because 15 years ago the numbers they came up with were wrong too. In another 15 years you're told to do it again because the numbers before were wrong.


    So outside of these number festivals that no one can share, must keep a secret... you then get the equipment installed by? Installers. Some might have been trained, and that training could be while they were at your house. How old are they? Well training only takes a few hours so 20-30 year old is completely fine. (maybe it is, or maybe I have seen, heard, witnessed too many secrets in person. LOL)


    Oh Ray everything is a joke to you? I find it funny how people think and act when I expose various truths they never think about until?


    I point them out.

    (The proper way most choose is to disagree with me... if that is you too after all of this --- have fun. I realize the belief game based on truths isn't a game most want to think about.)

    Unfortunately this is how the AHRI and the HVAC industry want it to be. People are trained to buy a HVAC system on a SEER rating only. Most consumers and HVAC professionals don't know how the SEER rating is calculated. Nor does anyone know how to use the SEER rating to determine their annual cooling costs.

    To add further confusion in 2023 HVAC equipment will have a SEER2 rating with the US split into three regions. There are places in the house where one side of the street will require a minimum SEER2 rating of 13.4 and the other side it will be 14..3. But if you install a heat pump the SEER2 rating needs to be 14.3 in every state including Alaska.

    If you expect the performance of an installed HVAC system to match the stated SEER rating of the equipment only then you don't understanding the SEER rating or you don't understand the difference between pieces of equipment and an installed system or both.

    The problem with product ratings, including SEER and EER, is that they are derived from tests performed under controlled conditions in a laboratory test environment. Only the tested equipment is rated--not a homeowner's installed system--which includes whatever flavor of (usually poorly-designed) duct work and dampers are installed in a home. SEER tests were performed at 0.1" w.c. which is an ideal operating static pressure for a system and not representative of most systems. That's why ratings are changing to SEER2 next year. Testing of equipment under SEER2 will be at 0.5" w.c. operating pressure which is more representative of installed system conditions.

    Are SEER and SEER2 ratings useful? Yes, for comparing different types of equipment. Just don't expect your HVAC system performance to be the same unless it operates at the same operating static pressure as the lab tests.
