Waterproof laminate floor over vinyl flooring problems

We are redoing the hall basement, stairs and washroom with laminate flooring. My husband is doing the work. He said he couldn't rip out the vinyl because it had asbestos. So he is putting the laminate on top of it. But now he says that the flooring is not completely flat and the laminate is not stuck on in some areas. So he ripped it up. He is using glue I believe and water bottles and weights are to keep the floor down while it is drying.

I preferred tile, but he said it was too much work. This is a lot of work too!

Any suggestions?

The floor is relatively flat, but not completely flat it seems. The old vinyl has been fine for the 40 years we have lived in the house, and we had no issues with it other than discoloration. How does one even make this floor level then?

The correct prep involves finding the high spot, and pouring a specialty SLC to even the rest of the floor with it.

Oh, I see! It does make sense that the floor needs to be levelled before the laminate flooring is put down.

I had a chat with a neighbor of mine and asked details about their laundry room renovation. She said that the floor had to be levelled before the laminate was installed. They used some kind of concrete. I was wondering how one puts down laminate on such a curved floor!

It seems no job is an easy one!
